Mercedes has departed hugely from previous A-Class designs and will launch this brand new model at Geneva today. Obviously the relative success of BMW’s foray into premium compacts was becoming too much to ignore for their chief rivals in Stuttgart.

I am a BMW fan, but hell, this looks good. And there's going to be an AMG version!

That looks a million times better than the previous A class models! I reckon they have a winner on their hands.

It kills me to say it... But wow that Merc looks good!

Only problem with it is... EVERYONE knows what it looks like and where Merc got the idea... It's a little too similar for my liking.

EDIT: And what's up with everyone copying VW? The new 1series rear lights looks pretty darn similar to the new Polo, and now this Merc which has VERY similar lines to the new 1series, ALSO has VERY similar rear lights to the new Audi A3. Seems like one brand a year makes a base model and then everyone just copies that and changes a line here and a line there... Well thats IMO anyway

Looks a lot better, but it does look somewhat blatantly copied.

I do prefer the 1 Series's lower and sleeker nose. The way that the bonnet of the new A Class rises at the back looks ugly to me.

worthy of being considered as a replacement for SWAMBO's Audi A3 Sportback, esp with this engine: 'The A 220 CDI has a displacement of 2.2 litres, an output of 170 hp and torque of 350 Nm, delivering absolutely exceptional performance in the A-Class.'

Quite a big overhang at the front. You might scrape the road surface if a driveway or kerb is steep

Wow that's a good looking car! Wayyy better than the 1 IMO. The original A-class should have been a hatch in the first place, not a Renault Scenic clone.

I can already see a 1M, RS3, Focus RS, R26, Golf R rival in the form of an A23 AMG. I've seen them testing a whole lota New Mercs on a very challenging mountain road in Mpumalanga for the last 4 weeks or so covered in black plastic to conceal the looks.

Go have a look and see what the rear reminds you of ;)

Yes. They look exactly the same...

Didn't we disagree about a resemblance before? :)

Hahahaha i was thinking the same thing! Wasn't it to do with the New Ford SUV that i (and MANY others) thought looked like a facelifted Kia Sportage?

As for the pics you posted... I meant the older model A3's, my mistake. It was the '09-'10 model i was thinking about...

EDIT: Sidetrack>>> Dont you think the new 1 series rear lights look very, if not TOO similar to that of the 2011 Polo's?
