Hi Guys

Anyone driven one of these ?

I need to buy the Wife a new car and would love to try an M-Class. I think they're nice for a family car and the AT transmission would be a new thing to me. I think it would be cool for long road trips and so forth.

If anyone has owned one pls tell me what you think about them ;)

my father drives one, its a very nice car and theres not much i can fault it on, he drives an ML350. smooth ride, and u feel safer in it coz its so big, looking down on everyone else. the auto transmission was a bit tricky at first tho, coz i didnt bother reading the instruction manual (it has that stalk shifter/handbrake thingymajing).ohh and its quite fast too for such a big car, with the ML500 and AMG being much faster still. the ML320CDI is slower but fuel consumption is better

ML500

I will never be able to afford one of those :D

I think my question is more toward a reliability stand point, I have never owned an Automatic..... Are they reliable? (I've heard alot of people complaining with Automatice gearbox problems and so forth - Not Merc's thought but automatics in general) Don't want to buy an expensive car that breaks down all the time :o

Wow. You sure are well-off. Never would have thought it.

Regarding the automatic ... On a 4x4 it will only be an issue if you drive the car like a retard. It shouldn't give any problems.

Then I think I'll get one, that was my only concern. Would love to be able to put a car in drive and just cruise where ever I need to go. For driving like a retard I'll still have my Polo :D

ML

Been driving one now for 2 years. Got a ML270 (Auto) with 79000 on the clock and currently on 147000.

Great 4x4 - Been through the Kalahari and Botswana deserts towing an offroad trailer. Only got stuck once because the middleman was too high and the wheels could not reach (weight of the trailer lifting the nose :D.

Great car, love it to bits and the economy is great - get 12+km/l on open roads (Diesel) . In town driving I get 8-10Km/l. Make sure you get a diesel, my friend with a ML350 petrol get about halve of what I get per tank.

Extremely nice road car with the added bonus that you can do offroad if needed. The Paris-Dakar rally have been won several times by a standard ML350 so they are very capable offroad.

Try to get one with less than 120000 on the clock and buy an extended Motorite warranty. Cost me R24000 for the warranty up to 160000km. Have already paid for itself in the services done so far. Also cover all major breakdowns - gearbox, turbo, electricals etc...

Awesome advise, very much appreciated :)

I was thinking of the Diesel also. :o

My mom and stepfather had an ML270CDI for about years - not a bad car for the price. My uncle has a ML63 which is also pretty cool.

How much is a used Toureg though?

My mother is on her 3rd one now, the current new model. IMO the new ones can not be compared to the 1st two models, total different and the overall build and ride quality is much, much, much better.

If you can try to get one of the current models 2nd hand go for it. they much better than the previous ones.

Before this one she had a 270 cdi like the one in your link. We took it to steves auto clinic to put a chip in, that thing pulled very nice after that.

Regarding the auto box i don't see any problems with them, they quite nice. Don't know if they start to give problems when they reach high mileage though.

The auto gearboxes are very reliable in the m-class unlike the a-class which was the biggest flop in merc history. If your interested in a second hand one I would consider some of the aucor and parkvillage executive auctions. I saw a 2005 ml350 special edition with 65k km go for 170k excl vat. which is a very good deal imho.

I always found the older ML was very wobely, i got really sea sick sitting at the back on long trips. think they sorted it out in the newer ones though.

the ml is a very nice car, try getting one with a build in gps and stuff like that, you'll enjoy that car for many many years :)

You won't regret it .... auto's are super reliable now-a-days and as others said just make sure you get the diesel.
