Merc Or BMW

I'm assuming you are young.

For that money you can buy a decent old-mobile with enough to spare to earn R200-R300 a month in a decent savings account for the rest of your life. Enough to to go on a minor date every month. Or even buy a small franchise. It will cost very little to maintain. Look after it and it will probably sell for more than you paid. As near to a free ride as anybody can get.
Whatever else. A car should be a minor expense in your overall budget. And apart from a way to get from A to Z that's very nearly all it is - An expense. There's a reason why some people choose to use the bus. The sticker price is just the beginning. I knew a guy with a nice beemer around the time I owned my first car. The water pump broke outside of warranty and it ended up costing him more than I paid for my car. I had a better social life than he did. All he did was wheel spins, and collecting eye-rolls.
Get the cheapest car you can find that's still in decent nick and has some personality (and an aircon). How you look after a car makes a bigger impression on the right kind of people than what car it is. Grab a bucket every weekend to clean and polish it - Keep the interior clean and smelling good - Learn a bit about it - Nurture some discipline by looking after it well. That's a winning strategy for getting the right kind of admiration.
But in the end ... You must do you. I should add that is what my advice is geared for lol - You living your life. Not a life through other people's eyes. Mind you... If a 100k second hand BMW or Merc with potentially huge maintenance costs is a budget option for you then go for it lol. Still look after it or else it's just a waste.

+1 well said

people live for their cars these days. An older expensive car equals massive maintenance expenses
