Second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan revealed to tackle VW Caddy

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan has been unveiled as a new commercial offering from the Daimler group. The new model, which shares a platform with the Renault Kangoo, brings with it a number of modern features while retaining utilitarian principles.

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan combines compact exterior dimensions with a generous amount of space. Thanks to a number of different versions and practical equipment details, it offers plenty of different usage possibilities and convenient loading. Cabin configurations consist of a panel van and passenger tourer for now but more variants such as a long wheelbase and Mixto version will become available at a later stage.

The second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan is available with up to two sliding doors. These offer a wide opening on both sides of the vehicle measuring 615 mm with a load compartment opening height of 1 059 mm.

The Tourer configuration boasts a tailgate featuring a rear window but as an alternative, it is also available with rear doors. The rear bench seat can be folded down in the ratio of 1:3 to 2:3 and numerous stowage spaces and compartments facilitate everyday use of the second-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan.

Caddy-rivalling Mercedes-Benz Citan revealed, will spawn T-Class

The new-generation Mercedes-Benz Citan has been unveiled, and like its predecessor the new van is based on the Renault Kangoo through the same Alliance ties that saw the creation of the ill-fated X-Class bakkie.

Customers are no doubt a bit more forgiving at the lower end of the commercial market and thus the Mercedes-Benz Citan has a place in the world as a direct rival to vehicles like the Volkswagen Caddy. The new Citan that you see here will be available in Panel Van and passenger-carrying Tourer versions, and the German carmaker is also planning a more luxurious spin-off called the T-Class as well as an electric variant.

For now the Mercedes-Benz Citan is being launched in just one length, 4489mm with a 2716mm wheelbase, and the company says it’s more spacious than its predecessor, with the Panel Van offering a load compartment length of 3.05 metres. Mercedes is planning to launch longer-wheelbase variants at a later date. Diesel models offer a payload of around 750kg.

The vehicle is available with up to two sliding doors and the Panel Van is fitted with asymmetrical dual rear doors, which are also an option on the Touring.

Customers in Europe can choose from five engine variants. On the diesel front, there’s a 1.5-litre turbo unit offered in 55kW/230Nm, 70kW/260Nm and 85kW/270Nm guises, while the 1.3-litre turbopetrol engine can be ordered with 75kW/200Nm or 96kW/240Nm. Claimed combined fuel consumption is between 5.4 and 5.8 l/100km in the case of the diesels and 7.1 to 7.2 l/100km for the petrol models.

Mercedes-Benz has a new contender in the small van segment and it’s called the Citan!

Mercedes-Benz has a presence in the large van segment with its Vito and Sprinter products but now a more compact van offering has been revealed. This is the Citan. It’s worth noting that Merc will also bring a more upmarket T-Class van offering to market in the near future.

Interestingly, the Citan is the last commercial vehicle project from Mercedes-Benz to feature an internal combustion engine as all future projects will be electric. An electric eCitan is due for launch in the second half of 2022.

The Citan will rival products such as the Volkswagen Caddy, Opel Combo, Fiat Doblo and Peugeot Partner, to name a few.

The Citan is underpinned by the familiar Renault Kangoo but has been given the Mercedes-Benz styling treatment. The Citan measures 4 498 mm in length with a wheelbase of 2 716 mm and will be offered as both a passenger Tourer and a commercial Panel Van version.

The Citan can be had with up to 2 sliding doors with a 615 mm opening while two 180-degree rear doors provide easy access to the 3 005 mm load bay. The Citan Tourer however forgoes the 2 rear doors for an optional single tailgate. Towing capacity is rated at 1 500 kg.

On the inside, the Citan features a modern-looking interior design and Merc’s MBUX infotainment operating system makes its way into the Citan via a 7-inch touchscreen which offers voice activation, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability.

Mercedes-Benz Citan gets micro camper conversion as official accessory

In order to add some adventurous appeal to the recently revealed Mercedes-Benz Citan, the German manufacturer has introduced a micro camper conversion as an official accessory for its adventurous clientele.

The official conversion will be fulfilled by a Swiss-based company by the name of Sortimo. The firm will turn the Mercedes-Benz Citan into a two-in-one solution with a kitchen and bed unit which will be installed in the rear. The kitchen unit uses a drawer system and features a sink system, two-ring removable gas cooker and a drawer for cooking utensils.

Optionally available is a cooler box which can also be integrated in the kitchen unit. The bed system is installed above the kitchen unit. In just a few moments, this can be folded out to create a bed with a surface area measuring 2 020 mm by 1 510 mms. When it is folded away, the rear seats can be used unimpeded. The multifunction box from Sortimo Switzerland is available in the colours black, grey and red and orange.

The roof tent from Sortimo is installed on the roof bars of the Mercedes-Benz Citan. It can be installed in just a few minutes and, with its 2 400 mm by 1 400 mm area, it claims to offer additional sleeping space for up to two adults. The tent is waterproof and features a canopy above its entrance. Two windows equipped with mosquito nets are provided to ensure air circulation and a view of the outdoors. Access to the roof tent is afforded by the aluminium ladder provided.

Back in mid-2020, Mercedes-Benz confirmed it had plans to add a small van-based model to its range. Now, finally, the Stuttgart-based firm’s vans division has released the first official image of the new T-Class, showing off the Volkswagen Caddy rival’s three-slat grille.

Set to be fully unveiled on 26 April 2022, the T-Class is described as a “completely new model” and has been conceived in collaboration with the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance (just like the closely related new Citan). In short, that means its shares most of its oily bits with the Renault Kangoo. Expect it to take on the likes of the aforementioned Caddy and Kangoo, as well as the Opel Combo Life.

The automaker says the new “premium small van” will take the form of an “attractive model for entry” into Mercedes-Benz ownership, offering “plenty of space” despite its “compact outer dimensions”. Expect the T‑Class to feature a versatile interior as well as sliding doors.

The first-ever Mercedes-Benz T-Class is set to be revealed on April 26, the carmaker has confirmed, and this new teaser image gives us our closest look yet at the new compact people mover.

It’ set to be pitched as a more luxurious alternative to other compact vans like the Volkswagen Caddy and Ford Tourneo Connect.

But like the ill-fated X-Class bakkie, the T-Class is not a Mercedes beneath the skin. Essentially a more luxurious version of the Mercedes Citan commercial van that was revealed last year, the T-Class will be based on the Renault Kangoo through the German carmaker’s ties with the Renault Nissan Alliance.

“With this completely new model, the brand with the three-pointed star will be offering a premium small van for active lifestyles,” Mercedes said.

“The T‑Class combines a sporty and emotional design with a spacious and variable interior, practical sliding doors and the comfort, connectivity, high-quality appeal and safety typical of Mercedes.

Sibling model to the Renault Kangoo gets styling and technology from the A-Class hatchback

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the T-Class, a new compact-commercial-van-cum-MPV based on the second-generation Mercedes Citan van.

Sister model to the Renault Kangoo, alongside which it was developed and is produced at Renault’s Maubeuge plant in northern France, the T-Class is set to go on sale in the UK later this year in standard-wheelbase guise with a five-seat layout and a limited range of four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines.

A larger and roomier longer-wheelbase version offering up to seven seats is planned to join the line-up in 2023.

The Volkswagen Caddy rival also forms the basis of Mercedes' upcoming EQT – an electric version of the T-Class set to adopt the same driveline as the latest Renault Kangoo ZE.

“We're extending our portfolio with a small van,” says Mathias Geisen, head of Mercedes‑Benz Vans. "The T-Class is for everyone who needs plenty of space, from active families to sports enthusiasts.”

The initial standard-wheelbase T-Class is differentiated from the Kangoo by styling similar to that seen on the Citan. Included is a characteristic Mercedes grille with chromed highlights and a large three-pointed star, set within a new colour-keyed front bumper featuring a full-width lower panel in black.

Mercedes-Benz has taken the covers off its new T-Class minivan and hopes to take a few sales away from the Volkswagen Caddy.

The Mercedes-Benz T-Class is an upmarket take on the commercially-focused Citan. Both are based on the Renault Kangoo, and will feature both internal combustion engine power and electrification. The T-Class will be positioned as a luxury rival to the Volkswagen Caddy.

The T-Class is said to enhance the commercial platform with upgraded levels of comfort, tech and safety equipment. The transition from commercial to luxury small van is not easy, but Mercedes-Benz has given the T-Class some upmarket touches like colour-coded bodywork, chrome detailing, luxury grille and so on.

Physically, the new T-Class is 4,5 metres long, 1,8 metres wide, 1,8 metres tall and features a wheelbase of 2,7 metres. Right now, Mercedes-Benz is offering the newcomer in 5-seater configuration, but the Stuttgart-based company has said it will be launching a longer wheelbase model with 7 seats.

Inside, the cabin features design elements from the Mercedes-Benz compact range, like the MBUX 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity, but we’re surprised there’s no digital dashboard. Standard kit looks generous with keyless-go, Artico leather trim and so on. Interestingly, if you look closely, you can spot climate control switchgear from Renault Nissan Alliance. Safety kit is said to range from 7 airbags and advanced driving assistance systems like Distronic and Active Steering Assist.

Mercedes tried and saw limited success with the X-Class bakkie but now the Stuttgart manufacturer is trying their hand at a light commercial vehicle that can be used by both business and families with active lifestyles. Say hello to the new T-Class.

These light commercial vehicles have seen growing success over the past few years, offering utility and practicality that SUV’s can’t seem to rival. Mercedes are now joining Ford, Volkswagen, Fiat, Peugeot, Citroen and Renault in their latest endeavour to try and win some of the niche market with a fancier offering than any of the aforementioned.

Like Mercedes did with the X-Class using an existing Nissan platform, so too will the new T-Class. This time around, the Germans will not be pairing up with their Japanese counterparts but rather their French neighbours since it is based on the Renault Kangoo – a model which debuted in 2020 and hasn’t been offered here amidst our craze with SUV’s.

The Mercedes T-Class Is A Reminder That Mercedes Makes Normal Cars For Normal People Too

The T-Class is a new nameplate for the German automaker.

In the States, where Mercedes is a luxury marque associated with overpaid lawyers with no taste, it’s hard to imagine that it can be anything else. But in Europe, where Mercedes is more like just A Car, things are a bit different. Consider the Mercedes-Benz T-Class, a van that reportedly costs less than €30,000.

Yes, that is in euros, because this car is intended for Europe, and apparently just a Renault Kangoo but with a Mercedes badge. Mercedes says that all of four child seats can be installed in the five-seater version, because this is a car for families that like to reproduce. It comes in a manual or optional dual-clutch. You can load in children from the the rear, Mercedes says, in addition to doors on the sides of the car, which I have to imagine is done with narrow old European streets in mind. The car also has air-conditioning.

Even the standard equipment specification includes the following: MBUX infotainment system with 7-inch touchscreen and smartphone integration, multifunction steering wheel with Touch Control buttons, air conditioning, KEYLESS Start, instrument cluster with 5.5‑inch colour display, height-adjustable driver’s seat, an enclosed glove compartment, a luggage compartment cover and pockets on the front seat backrests. Plus there is LED interior lighting and, depending on equipment specification, ambient lighting with up to eight colours (Style and Progressive Line).

New sibling model to the Renault Kangoo priced from the equivalent of £24,565 in Germany

European pricing has been revealed for the Mercedes-Benz T-Class, with the new compact van-cum-MPV starting at the equivalent of £24,565 in Germany.

The base model of the Mercedes-Benz Citan-based people carrier starts at €29,314, which translates to just over £24,000 in the UK. This puts it on par with the MPV variant of the Volkswagen Caddy, its main rival.

An upgraded Style trim level starts at the equivalent of £26,444, adding seats finished in Mercedes’ Artico synthetic leather, chrome interior detailing, ambient lighting and fold-away table for rear passengers. On the outside, the trim level adds 16in five-spoke wheels and tinted rear windows.

The top-spec Progressive trim level will set you back the equivalent of £27,609, providing Artico seats, matt-silver interior detailing and electric windows in the rear doors. The package also includes 16in 10-spoke alloy wheels, LED High Performance headlamps as well as partially LED rear lights.

A number of equipment packages are also available. The Technology Pack introduces wireless charging, keyless go and upgraded lights for the equivalent of £1305, while the Winter Pack includes a heated steering wheel, a heated windscreen and heated seats for the equivalent of £556.

Mercedes-Benz teases EQT Marco Polo electric micro camper

This isn't the first time Mercedes talks about its an EQT concept, but this time, the company teased a Marco Polo version, which denotes that it's a micro camper vehicle. Unfortunately, Mercedes didn't even show a hint of the concept EQT Marco Polo and instead, served us this image.

As you can see, this is the larger EQV version of the vehicle while the smaller EQT is supposed to be parked next to it. We suspect that it won't look much different from the newly introduced T-Class, which also comes in a Marco Polo micro camper variant.

The company plans to unveil the EQT Marco Polo on December 2, but it will actually be more than a concept. Mercedes says that it's a "near-series concept vehicle" so a large part of it will be production-ready, leaving only a couple of things that need changing before entering production.

Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its new EQT ahead of a planned start to UK sales for the electric version of the recently introduced T-class in 2023.

Developed in an engineering partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Renault, the new commercial-vehicle-based, MPV-style offering is closely related to the Renault Kangoo E-Tech, Nissan Townstar EV and Opel/Vauxhall Combo e-life, alongside which it is produced at Renault’s Maubeurg manufacturing plant in France, together with combustion engine T-class, Kangoo, Townstar and Combo models.

The EQT will initially be sold in short-wheelbase five-seat guise with two sliding rear doors and a large tailgate.

Alongside the standard model pictured here in production guise for the first time, Mercedes-Benz is also developing a so-called ‘micro-camper’ variant of its latest EQ badged model previewed by the Concept EQT Marco Polo.

”For us, the future is electric – regardless of the size or purpose of a van,” says Klaus Rehkugler, head of sales Mercedes-Benz Vans.

Previewed in concept car guise in 2021, the EQT is visually differentiated from internal combustion engine T-class models by a uniquely styled front end with a new look bumper and so-called black panel grille treatment.

Eschewing the thin line headlamps of the EQT concept, the production model adopts the same shaped assemblies as the T-class, but with darkened graphics. The exterior mirror housings also come in black.

The length, width and height of the EQT is put at 4498mm, 1859mm and 1819mm , making it just 2mm shorter but 4mm wider and 19mm higher than the new fourth-generation Volkswagen Caddy.
