best is to call merc and ask them about the car they can give a report as well

get the engine number from the owner

We gots a Merc. 2005 C class.

As long as nothing breaks, you're relatively fine. Got 160k on the clock now and only had one "major" incident, being the oxygen sensors and engine harness which had to be replaced (20k including labour).
Services aren't really expensive compared to other cars.
Parts are slightly more expensive.

If you're serious about the car, make sure about everything that's been broken on the car, when what was replaced, etc.
