Merc's DiesOtto engine

Amazing motor - now what I'd like to see is a 900cc version making 87kW and getting 2.7l/100km. I'd buy one of those in a heartbeat.

The figures of 5 L/100km is amazing taking into consideration the car weighs 1800kg!

Imagine that exact motor in an A-class.

175kW in an A-Class?! For a very hot hatch that would be great, but personally, I'd be more than happy with 90-odd kW in an A-Class sized car and get fuel efficiency of under 3l/100km.

I think they're mostly talking about cutting reliance on 100% petrol engines, and rather using duel-fuel engines or hybrids.

I don't see how a company can remove all petrol engines and expect to remain profitable when the infrastructure for biofeuls etc is not in place in most countries...

I was thinking more along the lines of an eco-friendly hot hatch.:D

I think it is an optimistic target. Unless we have all been duped and electric cars can be viable already.
