Instead of helping you they all just assume you know. You may but for other readers I'll explain it.

If you socket gems according to the colour scheme on the items you get a socket bonus. This socket bonus together with a meta gem some where on your gear would influance how you place the gems.

However, you can slot any gem in any colour slot and get the gem bonus, you will however lose out on the Socket bonus for that piece of gear, or even on the Meta gem if you don't have the correct number of coloured gems to supply you with the Meta Gem bonus.

But if you want you can stack red gems in all your slots if it is worth more than the socket bonus and if you don't lose your meta gem bonus. Of ir the Meta Gem bonus is not worth your while.

I has dumb today I cant brain. I added a socket to my belt and poped in a blue gem cos its a neutral socket and there is my blue 4 da meta gem done and dusted. O and p.s its allmost CATURDAY.
 
Meta activation requirements don't look at socket bonuses they only check if your have x number of y gems in your gear.

Hope that clears that up?

EDIT

Belt Buckles don't have a color but don't influence socket bonuses hence you can shove w/e you want in a Belt Buckle.
 
3 x 30 Stamina gems FTW and ensure you have the +100 HP enchant on the chest ... for the day you pull aggro and need to tank the boss / add :D
