Messaging app battle heats up

The battle of the messaging apps is heating up as global mobile messaging giants, WhatsApp and WeChat plot remarkable growth and add new features to entice prospective users.

At the time of the push, WeChat had already clocked a 400 million-plus subscriber base, according its local director, Brett Loubser, which included 50 million users internationally.

so who are the other 350 million then?

And once again blackberry is waaaaaay to late too the party with the android/iphone app they announced months ago

In July 2013, China’s Tencent-run mobile messaging platform, WeChat, ramped up its global presence – which included a big marketing push in South Africa.

At the time of the push, WeChat had already clocked a 400 million-plus subscriber base, according its local director, Brett Loubser, which included 50 million users internationally.

In under a month, WeChat’s international subscriber base has boosted to 70 million users, according to Tencent.
If bb had released their app then they might have competed to get those 20 million 'international' users

Where does Twitter come in? It's not strictly an IM app, not even close.

WhatsApp and WeChat I can understand yes. WhatsApp still beats WeChat though in terms of use but I suspect that WeChat's subscriber number is more due to it being a free ap, not that WhatsApp is that expensive.
