Messi vs Ronaldo

When Ronaldo fell, i think it was a nudge, not a foul at all ! when he was on the ground he tried kicking the player that nudged him. People say he is a professional?? NOT GOOD AT ALL

Ronaldo's attitude is just not good for the professional game

I think what Ronaldo did last season was amazing and he deserved all the awards he got.

I also believe that Messi is the best player on the planet at the moment. Had it not been for his injuries last season and the season before that, who knows what awards he would have won.

I also think that if Ronaldo's attitude was better, he would be a better player.

Better than Messi? I still dont think so. Two different players, two different styles.

Maybe i just prefer what Messi brings to the table. I believe that he is more skillfull, technical and brings more to the team than Ronaldo.

Now I ask you, have you seen Ronaldo play, just because popular opinion is that Ronaldo is the best does not mean that he is not. Messi is a player that attacks dangerously from the flanks, Where Ronaldo controls the whole game. How can you say Messi brings more to barca then Ronaldo brings to man united. The guy basically won the season and sadly, the champion’s league for them.

He takes corners, free kicks, is great in the air, is a penalty specialist, breaks open defenses from the midfield and then he can score himself or put in a team mate with a wonderfully weighted pass. The effect he has on united is unbelievable. Messi bringing more to the team then Ronaldo is laughable.

I have seen him play for the past 6 years. Popular opinion is that Messi is the better footballer.

Controls the whole game? Ha! A player who controls a whole game is Xavi or Gerrard. Ronaldo does not do that. Ronaldo is a ball hog that wants to do everything himself.

If Ronaldo played in a weak team last year, like Wigan. Do you think he would have still achieved what he did. Do you think if he played for Reading, he would have scored all those goals?

Fact is, Ronaldo was playing with a ''great'' team last year.

Look at this season, how would you rate his form? He is no where near Messi. His attitude stinks, he dives every opportunity he gets and what has he contributed to the team?

Any comment that says "ronaldo controls the whole game" cant be taken seriously. His known for going awol in big games.

Also he sounds like someone who has never watched messi play, which is the problem when debating about the 2 players with ronaldo "suppoters" having never actually watched la liga or messi (only in champs league).

Where the people who think messi is the best actually have been watching both players for ages.

Incase you missed the thread awhile back from most would say the best football journalist in the UK:

Messi is on fire at the moment. It's only the start of the year but you kind of get the impression that he will win the 2009 'World Footballer of the Year' award hands down unless he is out for most of the year through injury.

Ya his amazing at the moment, lets hope he doesnt get injured as that has been the reason he has lost out in the past.

He got a standing ovation last night from the madrid stadium, imagine Ronaldo getting one outside of old trafford lol.

100%

Thing is, he was playing the exact same last year! Yet nobody here gave him respect. If it wasnt for his injury in the past he would have done greater things already.

Hoping he doesnt get injured this season.

Was thinking about it. When last did a player get a standing ovation from the opposition fans?

I remember Ronaldinho got one at Real Madrid a few years back as well.

...but in England? Anybody you can think of?

Gerrard has had a few already this season, most notably at Newcastle.

Oh ok, i missed that match. Why does that never make headlines? I think that is the highest compliment a player can recieve.

The Newcastle game didn't make a headline but was mentioned in a few articles in the english media. The other games where he got applause from the opposition were not mentioned in the media but more from season ticket holders that attend away games.

In fact, it happens quite a lot around the grounds, just doesnt get picked up as on most occasions it's normally the minority that applaud a player/team off the pitch.

I am talking about when Ronaldinho got subbed in the 85 minute at the Bernabeu. The entire stadium stood up and clapped for him. My mouth dropped to the floor.

Those people hate anything Barcelona so much that it was something extraordinary to see. Really something moving. Its like Gerrard playing at Old Trafford and walking off and the entire Old Trafford giving him a standing ovation.

Same thing happened with Messi. I think its the highest compliment a player can recieve.

That would never happen even if Gerrard scored 5 goals in a 5-0 victory at Old Trafford.

The one at Newcastle, Gerrard was subbed off on 70 mins and the whole ground gave him a standing ovation which you could even see on TV. That's probably the nearest I've seen an English player being applauded off the ground.

rolf as what poolmania said that would NEVER happen in this lifetime :P

same would apply if rooney scores 5 goals at anfield :D

but personally being a united supporter if anyone can do a 5-0 win at old trafford I would give them a standing ovation. It's just pure class/style to achieve such an feat!

English supporters have the least respect, I remember watching Barca V Chelsea and Ronaldinho was tearing them apart.

What did I hear from the english supporters?
Not "WOW this guy is amazing" but "BREAK HIS FCKING LEGS!!!"

Different attitude in europe, where they respect a good performance for what it is.

What pissed me off big time about that game is when MOANorinho watered down the pitch, so that Barca cannot play their free flowing football.
