Hi all,

These are the movies I've taken using my cellphone while responding on P1 (Priority 1) calls.

I generally put them on Facebook, but since I'm not exactly friends with all MyBB members, I decided to open a YouTube account and upload them there for public viewing.

I've gotten permission from the crews in question to upload them and since I've gotten so much support from you guys with regards to my "Volunteering as a medic" with most EMS services, I thought I'd share some of the fun parts with you.

Surreal.

The ambulance must be going at quite a speed, but how about that sedan taxi overtaking them on the slow side at 2:20/7:53 (the Cape Town N2 clip)!

It's a taxi... need I say more? They are also the cause of most MVA's because of how FAST and BAD they drive!

I've always had some questions i.t.o. emergency vehicle drivers. What speeds do you guys average with the emergency vehicles when responding to a call? Also, ever meet some a$$wipes who just refuse to get out of the way? What's the clipboard the guy is holding in the first video? AND how do you guys route? just a standard gps set to route using fastest route?

You wouldn't happen to know a Kevin S, also a medic in CT. Went to school with me.

We drive as fast as we need too, so generally, 120± average (depends on where we are obviously), I don't think we've gone faster, we drive fast, but not stupid fast.
We get drivers who don't want to get outta the way, we either go around or flash them till they do get outta the way.
The clipboard is the patient care form, has the address on.
Routing is done depending on driver - either GPS or normal map book - most of the drivers know their way around to a point - especially the Metro EMS crews, Netcare 911 crews generally use GPS' (though most use normal map books too)

I don't know a Kevin S.

I was with Netcare 911 tonight, we responded to a call and I tried to record it - upon viewing, didn't come out nicely, the siren on the new A30 (ambulance I was on) sounds so soft from within the cabin that it didn't make for a exciting video, also the crew were blabbering about stupid stuff so I won't be uploading that.

I'd love to shoot a documentary on the EMS!!

These guys work hard, and are our true unsung hero's.

I'd do it free of charge, and I could possibly get some television airtime on it!!:D

When did you become a Medic Gdiza?

I take it the drivers have done advanced driving courses.

Awesome videos man - thanks for sharing!

Massive respect for you and your fellow medics!

I qualified about 7 months ago, but I was doing shifts prior to that for about 3 months - I wasn't supposed to be allowed but they saw I was keen and eager so they allowed me, I was taught so much by the crews of the ambulances which obviously helped me in doing my course.

Most drivers have done advaned driving (offensive and defensive) courses.

Thanks buddy! :)

How long did it take you to qualify?

IIRC your gf was involved

Couple of months.

Yes, GF was on the shift with me (2 latest "day" movies) - she works as a reservist for another ambulance in Cape Town, but I do more calls than her so I invited her to join me.

Cool videos, keep `em coming.... maybe a couple of fire ones too!
