Hi Does anyone know what the usual timeline is for rolling out fiber in an area? I have a family member who lives in an area that had fiber laid out earlier this year. In fact, as the team was finishing up, the last feedback was that they could begin placing orders for lines to be installed in their homes. This was early in April 2023. The family member opted for MFN direct, paid the fee, and was told to wait for the area to go live. Nothing has changed since; the area is surrounded by existing Metrofibre-covered areas, so this was a simple extension to their existing network. +/- 800 possible homes For context, this is in the Mid-Gauteng region
Every email or call to MFN to check the status of the project is answered with 'We do not yet have a live date from the project team'. Is this normal? The family member would simply wait, but the current data contract they have is ending, and they were hoping to be on fiber by now. To add insult to injury, every now and then there is a team of salespeople camping in the area (Vodacom, etc) trying to sign up people as they view the area as being live from their end already. I am not sure what is going on here. Is it ever going live?
