Good day everyone

Does anyone know what Metrofibre (pay as you go) is and what we may need to connect to it. Obviously fibre connection and router but as far as I know one can't buy a Metrofibre router at all.

I'm not sure this product has launched yet (I stand to be corrected) - but it is coming soon.

According to this it might be a thing not sure yet myself.

But if you click on it you get the following.

Still have no clue how it works. Terms and conditions takes you to this: Terms and Conditions

I had a look at the Terms and Conditions and it gave me this.

This is not complicated but at the same time unclear.

See on the one hand, clearly to buy the prepaid one would need the line, router and all the toys that goes with it.

  1. First problem is installation > Only contractors that work for Metrofibre can do the install.
  2. second problem is Router/modem/device > One cannot buy to own the router So not sure what to do about that.
Hence why I am asking. If they can tell me what router they recommend and supply me with a way to contact a contractor to do the line install then this is a good way to go about it. I like prepaid I like the idea of prepaid. I feel it will work well for us.

Just tell us what to get, what make and model they like to work with and IF it is affordable I promise you many many people WILL be interested

Last thing: What speed can we expect for the 20Mb line? I know they have a 2 star rating with over 1287 reviews and a second rating of 2.4 stars

Biggest complaint I know about is people with 20Mb lines get very slow speeds 10Mbs or lower on download and 5Mbs or lower on upload. One client of mine is a client of Metrofibre and he was so unhappy that he canceled it. Even at a much higher data plan he was only getting 15Mbs on a good day and rest of the time lower then 7Mbs

As far as I know, you can use your own router with Metrofibre. Not sure if/how prepaid would be different, but normal month to month you can use your own.

This actually helps a lot thank you very much you are awesome :) :)

If you sign up for the service, there is an option to buy an activation product. This includes TP installation, ONT/Gateway and 2 weeks access. ONT model depends on what OLT type the fibre is connected to, either Calix or Nokia.

With Metrofibre ISP on Metrofibre infrastructure you should not get less than the advertised speed on this (or any other) product. With other ISPs there is no way to tell what policing they have in place and what their upstream capacity is.
