Does anyone know if the Mexican Kitchen, just off Long Street, still exists?
I've tried calling to make a reservation, but no luck.
Telkom directory enquiries has their number as 021 4231541.
When I call I get one of those, 'the number you have dialled does not exist' messages.
I walked past about 2 months ago and they were operating then.

Was still going May 2012 when I was last there.

Closed for a while now as far as I know. Fat Cactus on Park Rd less than a km way has decent Mexican food.

El Burro in Greenpoint is also worth a visit if you don't mind the drive. Fat Cactus feels a bit like the Spur of Mexican joints after going to El Burro :). I still enjoy them both though.

What about Zapata in Rosmead/Lansdowne area?
Colleague at the office says their nachos - but he is a stoner :p

and there is that place in Obz - Panchos - lwr Main Road
Hmmm - the only time I've been there I found their nachos to be very much like poppadoms, not like the crispy ground corn nachos most other places serve. They were all way too soggy towards the end of the meal.

Fat cactus does good chilli poppers. El Burro serves them un-battered with a lovely smokey flavor to them and they're hot! I ain't a fan of cream-cheese inside chilli poppers.

Their burritos are good though.

Best Nachos I've had in CT was at the Buena Vista Social Cafe in Greenpoint - dang, mouth drooling now just thinking about it...

I eat a lot of Mexican food and I'd put Panchos at the top of the list for Cape Town. Their nachos is not the best but everything else is great.

In order, from best to last:

1.) Fat Cactus (Mowbray, find it to be way better than town)
2.) Pancho's (Obs)
3.) El Burro (overhyped and I wouldn't go there again)
4.) Zapata (overhyped and I wouldn't go there again)

Actually 3 and 4 tie, **** and overrated.

Went to Fat Cactus (Park Rd) last night with the wife and a couple of friends.
We had a great time. The food was great as was the vibe.
Icebergs were really nice.
Thanks for recommending.

I will try some other places mentioned soon.

Glad you enjoyed it. My wife and her chick friends ate there last night as well while I was home looking after our toddler. Very jealous...
