morning all,

this is my first post but have been trolling the forums for a while.

i need to get in contact with someone living in meyersdal, with an installed working adsl connection, anywhere near kingfisher cresent or blue crane ave.

i have order my line for the second time (first oct last year and aug this year for the second time). on both ocassions i have been told that adsl is not available where i live (this being meyersdal).
i cannot believe that this true, so if someone who lives in the area could contact me off the list at [email protected], i will be eternally indebited.

thanks

Hey Dude,

gmail is blocked at the office (web and e-mail).

I'm on ADSL in Falcon Street off Blue Crane. Applied in June. It was installed in 1.5 weeks.

My prefix is 011 867.

If you go to :

https://secure1.telkom.co.za/app/dslavailability/

and type in any 011 867 number (i used 011 867 1111), you get :

Your exchange supports DSL. If you wish to request service, click here. The provision of Telkom's DSL access service is subject to Telkom's standard terms and conditions, which is available here and at all Telkom's Customer Service Branches. Telkom cannot guarantee the provision of DSL access service which is subject to network availability, distance, copper quality, available ports and line sync speed limitations.

Kingfisher Crescent

Err I also battled with my installation more than a year ago. But we went to the towncouncil got the plans and showed telkom where the copper is layed. At the same time we found out there is a corporate isp in kingfisher road. Cant remember the name though... ugh... but they in the kingfisher office block... and the company below us uses them to get adsl because telkom spun them the same story for months on end....

freeze,

this is the response from your link.

Hi Guys

I know this is an old topic but i'm struggling with telkom

I stay in Rock Ridge in Phillip Engelbrecht Road in Meyersdal

Telkom says that there is no infastructure in my area

What is my best way forward ?

I'm desperate now :-(

Thanks in advance guys

My Dad is in Lindeque street... and he has ADSL. They probably mean that there are not more ports available. But you gotta keep phoning them and asking them if your name is on the list.

Thanks Gary, i asked them that and they said that there is no infrastruture at all which i highly doubt

@Srack, already done so on the 13th

There is an office park down the road from me, when i check the phone number of a business in the office park on the telkom adsl checker

It says that the exchange supports ADSL

This is the confusing part, if the exchange supports ADSL, hence the infrastructure is in place....Then what is telkom on about

Ye just checked now and theres no available ports at the meyersdal exchange.

Assignable Ports 0% Available There are no assignable ports available within the Exchange area.

Special Resources No There are no special resource restrictions.

Fibre Restrictions Yes There is Fibre restrictions associated with your DN request. ADSL service provisioning can be delayed due to the restriction or result in order cancellation if the restriction is not resolved due to unavailability within the network.

Exchange DSL Support Yes The exchange supports ADSL.

DP Sync Speed (kbps) 4096 The network in your area supports this speed.

Broadband Friendly Ready The network in your area is broadband friendly.

Comes from Telkom's Uniweb system, I work for an ISP and have access to it. Used our number as we are located in meyersdal in kingfisher!

Would recommend keep in line cos its the only way you gonna get anything, Gotta wait till some decides to cancel or wait for them to upgrade which could take up to a year or more, sucks we got such a crap company giving us DSL.

@m4dh4tt3 - Thanks alot for the info

Guess you right, not much i can do i hey..my order is in so i will just leave it there till something happens

It sucks big time, when my line is finally in then i'll come see you'll for a 4MB uncapped account ;-)

When did you place your order? I waited 5 months for mine.

I have 2 orders placed, 1 for telkom simple which was about 3 months ago and 1 on the 13th of this month

You think it;s worth waiting for it or should i look into something like wimax ?

Ja, no.... it is definitely worth waiting for 4 mbps ADSL... but if you are going for one of the slower ADSL packages then you might consider something else.

The problem with your location is that darn koppie right behind you which kills every wireless signal in the area. When I lived in KingFisher crescent we struggled with radio, TV and cellular reception. Wimax is also wireless, so I fear you would also struggle.

Just keep phoning them every stinking day. Keep all the reference numbers. Bother them until they HAVE to give you a line.

Speaking of the Meyersdal exchange, anyone had any problems in Brackendowns area? The techie said our and a few other cards are faulty (was after a storm) and they're waiting for stock to come in. My line attenuation went from 28 to 48 and even if I drop my speed, SNR margins remain unchanged and low and I sit disconnecting the whole time

My upstream attenuation went from 8 to 32 as well so my upstream fluctuates between 256 and 512 also disconnecting me, and even when it drops, the margin sits at like 5 no matter what

Do you know which exchange you are connected to? Where your exchange building is physically located?

Well I'm on the Meyersdal exchange, that's all I know. Otherwise I know I'm connected to one of those metro ethernet DSLAMs up the road from me, and that's why I had the good attenuation etc. Just annoyed because he said Telkom are waiting for stock of the new cards to come it to replace the busted ones. Our internet is all over the place and nothing changes the margins, not even dropping the speed :(

Im in randhart which is not all that far from meyersdal and i got adsl no problem , then again i was transfering from Henley on Klip to Randhart so it was a trasnfer

Bitch and moan , thats all what seems to help

Your one of the lucky ones hey, new lines are like a needle in a hay stack these days

I might go for Amobia 3 MB wireless for now, anyone know how good and what speeds i could expect ?
