MF10 router dropping ppp

I am using the MF10 router with MF190 USB modem.

The router's ppp connection drops periodically (flashing LED). When this happens the modem still seems to be connected (blinking green).

The only way I have found to make the router re-connect is to unplug-replug the modem.

Does anyone know if there is a way to make the router reconnect automatically when ppp drops?

Incorrect. Only steady light (green or blue) indicate connected state.

Not on the MF190. Even when plugged in directly to the PC, it blinks green WHEN CONNECTED. I am 100% sure of this.

These light indicators are pretty standard. Maybe you really mean registered to 2G network, but not in connect state?
- single flash (green or blue) registered to the network 2G or 3G respectively. Not connected.
- continuous light (green or blue) registered a/a and connected
- double green flash every 1-3 second not registered, searching for network

The indicators are standard maybe on Huawei modems?
The ZTE MF190 from Cell C goes from solid red to solid green to (slow) blinking green - and stays like this while connected.
The issue here is not the modem - it's the router that seems to lose its connection to the modem and then can't reconnect.
Have a look at this thread which confirms the MF190 indicators:

My issue is exactly the same as Base122:
"My issue is not a 2G/3G one, but rather a condition that arises, which interrupts the usb serial port communications between the router and the modem. This usually requires a modem unplug/replug or router reset."
