I find it much easier to convince my clients to switch their small business office PC's to Linux than I did 2 years ago.

looking at the basic PC needed by office staff these days, they only need a R4k-R5k PC. Just loading M$ on it adds another R3000 onto the price of the box. That's 40% of the price. When I show them that we can buy and deploy 3 PC's for the price of 2, they are immediately more enthusiastic. No more spyware, no more viruses, higher performance, simpler to use, free upgrade, no version incompatibilities and consistent software throughout the company.

Now if only we could convince Pastel or Quickbooks to bring out a Linux compatible accounting packages, there would be no reason to have windows in business. But I think the chances of that happening are about as much as Apple dumping the colour white.

Well... like Bill Gates said something to the lines of that it's amazing that because of all the mud thrown against the wall (meaning Microsoft), that not one spect of dust has ever stuck.

I prefer my R25000 laptop not to melt on my lap. My R2500 Ipod not to turn yellow and my operating system not to get Hacked before windows Vista

Microsoft operating systems are run on much more computers than Linux, therefore is targeted most. More non-computer literate people use Windows, so it's mostly a case of the people themselves opening the wrong things and therefore opening doors for their computers to be attacked.

My experience is that you are incorrect - Vista is being forced down people's throats by hardware vendors and their resellers, and can be traced all the way back to Microsoft and its business practices.

I wanted to buy a machine pre-loaded with either heXPee or Linux, however I was told that the heXPee version of the model number did not come with a DVD writer, whilst the Vista version did, so I was coerced into opting for Vista to get a DVD writer.

Seriously, MS makes great PC hardware, and XP is a mature usable OS.

I had Vista Home basic on my machine for 5 days it ran like a slug, I shudder at what Home premium would do to it. Then I installed XP and she flies along.

Simpler, better, faster.
