With a downturn in the economy, people are going to be looking to save money any way they can and the good old MS OS tax may start to feel it. That and I am sure OpenOffice is already biting a bit.

I would not like to see the demise of MS, because that will make for an unstable OS market with only Linux and Mac left.
Competition is always good, I would just like to see more transparency, more lenient EULAS and competitive pricing.

Add to that no more dirty tricks to stop open source programs from communicating with their proprietary junk, then it might work...
