Microsoft beats Apple in tablet sales

Microsoft needs Google to develop apps for their ecosystem.

That's a wide gap, but yes, not indicative of sales overall.

1. Certain US retailers

2. Sales accumulated after a new product launch

Personally would still get the Surface Pro 4 easily over any Apple product

Was expecting the article to only include iPad Pro tablets, Apple on it's way down. Tim Cook is Apple's Steve Ballmer

According to Winbeta, Microsoft tablets accounted for 45% of tablet sales in October – compared to Apple’s 17%.

No. That would be a Surface Pro 4. The Surface Book is a laptop and a "tablet".

Each to their own, I view it as a tablet with "laptop" functionality that is better than the Surface Pro 4, but a the end of the day its still predominantly a tablet since all of the equipment lives in the screen, the "laptop" portion is purely an extended battery, keyboard, trackpad and in the higher end models an additional GPU.

So all in one PCs are tablets?

Have played with the Surface Pro 3 i7 256GB. A few mates got their offices to get these babies for them. Incredible solution. Once you have worked on one of these, there is no going back.

And with the Surface Pro 4 out, hopefully the price of the Pro 3's will seriously come down - mid next year. This coupled with their phones, and 2016 is going to be a big year for MS hardware.

Now in SA, they just need to live up to their promise of dramatically increasing their product lines here.

I'm sure those numbers would be extra depressing.

Of course they would since the iPad Pro only went on sale mid-November and these numbers represent October sales…

Well not really Apple going down, this was predicted quite a while ago that 2-in-1 devices would overtake tablet and laptop sales.
Microsoft have a very compelling product in that its a proper desktop OS but it functions well as a tablet. The ipad pro is a tablet that does a poor to average job of being a laptop replacement.
