Microsoft could acquire Nokia in 2021 - Report

Sneaky backdoor to get 5G IP back in the States as Huawei has had its wings clipped. Smart.

Indeed. Microsoft is really only after the IP, not so much their networking hardware. Let's hope Microsoft doesn't, though - most of the tech they've acquired over the years turns to s**t.

Oh NO!!! I was actually keen on getting a Nokia mainly because of quick OS updates. No ways at all I'm going close to it if MS is near.

Why wouldn't they be after the networking tech?

Licensing the tech instead of manufacturing it themselves might net them more money?

Except MS do have a significant hardware manufacturing footprint and requirement these days, both in consumer kit (not necessarily for Nokia networking kit) and in their Azure DC's. If MS were after Nokia, it may actually be more for their networking tech and hardware specifically for Azure than anything else (merely speculation, but hey)

Just imagine your Nokia phone after an update from Microsoft and then get any phone other than a Nokia.

Just bring Google Nexus to SA. Best phone I ever had.
It changed names a while ago (Nexus -> Pixel) but I share the sentiment.

This is almost as bad as when Borland-no-want-to-be-called-Inprise-no-want-to-be-called-Borland-again idiocy.
Surely they're losing money here, why not just have kept it in the first place?
