rofl :D

I have to remember that one :p

/me likes PeterCH, though we seem to disagree once in a while :D

<-- Win7 fanboi

U mean to tell me Windoze 7 has XP built into it's core? :p
Oh - Ja, forgot, that's true... it's like telling me Windows 98 didn't run on DOS - we all knew the deal :p

No and YES. A special Win7 VM by M$ for XP that integrates seamlessly with the WIN7 OS. Google is you friend. Dowload and install it. You may be pleasantly surprised.

If you have trouble running an old app in Windows (XP, Vista or win7), try right clicking on the exe and setting compatibility mode to an earlier version.

Most people who use their Windows PCs to get any work done use Win XP.
Win Vista/7 is for gamerz.

Well I'll add my voice of agreement to Peter's seeing as though all the other little boys have decided to gang up against him. I work for a large corporation and they have only just started supporting Vista (and even then one of their software packages does not work on Vista), and support for Windows 7 will be many months off.

We don't just use our computers for personal use.

Do you have proprietary or bespoke software? Either would be a reason for a delayed rollout.

Why? It's called XP Mode for a reason.

It also only works with CPUs which support Virtualisation ONLY and does not work well for all apps and ... it adds an extra HAL on top of the already bloated OS - to do the same thing, but with more eye candy and other rubbish.

The same international companies I have relatives and friends working for - in France, US, Singapore and Japan are still using XP or 2K. These people actually use their software to make MONEY and WORK on their PCs not sit around all day and post about how cute Aero looks or how nice their new OS is. People who do serious things on their machines actually don't upgrade unnecessarily unless forced by clueless procurement people or by misinformation or there really is a genuine reason.

Voted by the same fanbois maybe who use their PCs to play games and ooh and aahh over the eye candy. Dude, if you are seriously pushing enterprise users to upgrade to Vista/7 over XP, and you are in IT, please tell me which company you work for so that I can tell everyone I know to avoid them.

Secondly GROW up, no-one has insulted you, reverting to personal attacks is only a sign of an immature, insecure personality. You can't defend with facts, you attack another person and call him a 'troll'. You don't even know what the word troll means, go to www.fravia.org to educate yourself.

Actually I don't know why I waste my time replying to the same rude, uncultured, uneducated, people who resort to ad hominem attacks and completely ignore facts. I have no time for you, kindly do not refer to me on this forum again. I will render you the same courtesy.

This debate happens every time a new version of Windows is released. Until about 2005, there were people saying that XP was just eye candy and fluff, and that 98 was good enough for them.

I know at least one leading Tokyo cosmetics and pharma company which runs 2K on all their machines - that's an example - I do not know if they have proprietary software but apparently everything works well enough and they're happy - they don't see a need to upgrade. In fact every other company I have friends or relatives working at, uses XP or 2K. Some use proprietary software but others don't. They're happy with XP/2K as is. These are multinational companies - one is French based and is a leading ISO certification company across the globe.

That's not entirely true. Win9x was not NT based. XP was the first home use NT kernel based OS and for me, I upgraded in 2001 added stability and no noticeable slow down over 9x and ME. I bought my copy of promo XP retail at
IC the same day it launched in SA. Prior to that, one explorer crash in 9x would kill your entire system.

Just to add, on the Mac, I'm not upgrading to Snow Leopard at this stage. Leopard seems good enough too. Even for R329 I don't see a need, I don't want it to break my
FCS 2 installation.

A business should adapt, or be left behind.

Hey maybe you are being productive on your Win7/Vista but I tend to not buy the hype of those who buy an OS for the eye candy and superfluous features,
which is why I've asked both Panasonic and NEC to sell me Win XP instead of Vista. Panasonic actually bundles both, but what the heck.

... ;) and the rotten apple doesnt have eye candy? Please! Apple are for Die hard's that pop LSD over weekends to make up for the eye candy, then align a ton of pretty crystals at their desk to calm them down while listening to happy flute music wile sipping on their cannabis tea!

... okay i'm sorta half guilty of most of those,... Still think Apple OS is crap, ;) Eye candy or not, Win7 is rules!!

Windows Visat Service Pack 2 is really a good OS. Its better than win7 in performance.

When I use win7 I can't even play games cause of the lag.
With the same system I can run all the same games on full witout any lag at all! win7 might be a cool OS but

Vista has all its problems sorted out with SP1 and SP2 so Vista is the better performer now!

Ha ha yeah right. I am not talking about your neighbourhood company here Slooth. This is a JSE Top 40 company.... so good luck with that train of thought. They still use XP and are still very much ahead of the pack if the recent financial results are anything to go by...

Your insinuation seems to be that every large corporation must bow down to Microsoft's whims? If the company I was with had done this we would now all have (*****ty) Windows Vista on our computers. Microsoft does not dictate to everyone.

Can't argue with the multinationals, which validates my choice of 2000 and XP (well, sometimes their IT departments get it spectacularly wrong, but I digress). I'm thinking of upgrading my last working 98 SE machine to 2000. I'll move to Windows 7 as I get new hardware (not the other way round), it seems like a stable OS, but only time will tell.

What a bunch of geeks are online today.:D No votes for Vista.:)

Most window fanboys pirate or don't pay for their copies, I use Linux because it rocks.

May the linux be with you, amen.

ofcourse I don't pay for Windows! Why must I, I do private work for Microsoft, I fix the activation bug for them! :D
