Microsoft downplays Windows Wi-Fi 'anomaly'

Only affects ad-hoc wireless networks .... nothing to worry about.

"nothing to worry about"? way to play it down tibby ... only the millions of users using ad hoc networks need to worry.

Millions ... where did you suck this figure from ???.

The huge popularity of the WRT-54G and the like seems to indicate that home users using XP simply don't use or are even aware of ad-hoc capability of WiFi cards.
The fact that people are not configuring their wireless routers properly and leaving them open for abuse is of far greater concern that this cute hack.

you right no one uses Adhoc networks... nothing to worry about.

What is distance covered by a laptop's wireless network? 20m? 1Km? 1000Km?

While there may well be some risk, as is indicated by MS's response, one must be careful about creating FUD for FUD's sake. Unless there is perhaps some other agenda?

That is well known limitation ... that is why it is much cheaper than XP Pro :).
