Microsoft happy with Bing

Ubersoft calls it "Doink"

For about two weeks I ran parallel Google and Bing searches. On the whole, Bing results were more relevant, and the previews are more useful. Now I've removed the Google toolbar and switched all my systems to Bing. Just this morning I installed Bing for Mobile on the Diamond/2 (also available for Blackberry).

I like it. And I'm happy to be off Google.

Look at the differences between these 2 results:
I searched for: Drupal module email
I would have thought that a few modules that actually deal with email would show up in the search results.

Bing: http://www.bing.com/search?q=drupal+module+email&go=&form=QBLH&qs=n
Google : http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&q=drupal+module+email&btnG=Google+Search&meta=&aq=f&oq=

Google get's it right on the 3rd result.
Bing gets it right on the 9th result.

If I get much more specific:
I searched for: drupal module email server authentication

Bing: http://www.bing.com/search?q=drupal+module+email+server+authentication&go=&form=QBRE&qs=n
Google: http://www.google.co.za/search?hl=en&q=drupal+module+email+server+authentication&btnG=Search&meta=

Both Bing and Google are spot on first time.

But ... Google adds the extra drill-down search result that points out a potential problem that catches my eye for me to go look at.

That little extra link is the reason i'm staying with google.

Microsoft has praised its freshly-launched Bing online search engine

There is nothing like a pat on one's own back, now is there :D

Ok! Admission time. :o I have tried BING a few times and have now added it as an alternative to GOOGLE. It's not all that bad. It looks and feels nice. I like the crispness and aesthetics of site. I like the smart-search help it gives (but so does GOOGLE).

But it doesn't have a local search for South African, or any other country, other than for the UK. Or have I missed something?

Still not a bad offering. I will use it from time to time. :)

Google's results are increasingly becoming less and less relevant. Too many spammers know how to "game" Google's results.

They must really start stepping up in this regard.

Google should give you the option to turn off certain sites in your search results. We have already sacrificed privacy by signing into the Google Search page (esp. if you use Gmail or the Toolbar), so the least they can do is allow us to exclude certain sites or types of sites.

eg. you type in a technical question and one of the first pages is Expert's Exchange which then says "to view the answer you have to subscribe". I wish I could just block them.

Also certain sites set up scripts to give a positive result to any search you enter, no matter whether it is relevant to their site or not. I want to be able to exclude those sites.

Google, are you listening? Consider it a way to punish those who are abusing search features.

Oh man .. Experts exchange is such an pain in the, yep.
A quick and easy way of removing them form the searches would be awesome.

They are quite useful though. I have found quite a few solutions from their site. I don't know if this still works, but you can disable cookies on your browser and then you can see the answers. Also, signing up for a trial account and then canceling it before you have to pay also works.

I'd rather just block them completely. I can normally find the answer without having to pay somebody.
