Microsoft has acquired GitHub - Sources

Microsoft agrees to buy GitHub for $7.5 billion

Microsoft Corp. said it reached an agreement to buy GitHub Inc., the code repository company popular with many software developers, for $7.5 billion in stock.

The deal will add to Microsoft’s operating income in its fiscal year 2020, the company said in a statement Monday. Microsoft expects the deal to close by the end of 2018. The shares were up 0.6 percent to $101.38 at 9:55 a.m. in New York.

So have I... but of course the point was missed. Micro$oft doesn't get bad rep for nothing.
Microsoft has a track record of acquiring things and F***ing them up. Skype is a very good example of this. Their desktop OS is a classic example of a complete and utter f**k up too

I agree, Microsoft loves to break working stuff. I used to love Windows Phone as well and they messed it up, sigh...

At least Windows 10 has been working better and better after each major update, for me at least. Also touch wood.

Good news for me as my career is heavily invested in MS technologies.

Bye bye GitHub...

I just have to say Win10 updates are schite compared to previous windows versions, it's really bad.

What... That is not good.

Bitbucket and Gitlab have a real opportunity here.

I do not trust M$ one bit, especially not with code.

Things not working after an update, had issues with gta v, csgo and some other apps after win updates.

I have mine on the slow release ring and I've been seeing a lot more stability with updates than Win7. I would however be utterly bitching about the massive downloads if I wasn't on 100Mbps

This, I have never used the fast ring. I don't want to be a Microsoft tester. Slow ring is very stable.

My employer has decided to remove all our code from GitHub. We will be building our own internal Git repository system.
We do not trust Microsoft, nor do we have any proof or expectation that they won't stuff it up like everything else they have in the past.
Unfortunately there's history, and I am inclined to agree with the manager. In his case its not an emotional decision, like it is for me.

You should look into a self-hosted instance of GitLab. It is opensource, and has well-documented methods of porting an entire GitHub project over to GitLab.

TFS (we switch to github now) is working just fine for the last 3 years.

But to each his own ;).

It very much is an emotional decision, even for your employer....

If the reason for moving away is because Microsoft owns the company rather than any technical reason, then its emotional.

Gitlab is a better product anyway IMO. Its CI functionality is fantastic.
