Many people seem to have the impression that MS is just outright greedy, and will try to charge people an arm and a leg. That is certainly not my perception of them lately.

They have many open source initiatives, they give away VS Code completely for free, while some of the closest competitors (like sublime) give trials. They, like google, have free online office apps and mail clients.
They gave windows 10 upgrade away for free.
You get the community edition of visual studio for free.

They may not have the best track record when it comes to improving stuff they take over, but unless you are a business customer, their stuff's pretty much free or very affordable.

You like to sit on the fence quite a bit... one day, a Microsoft fanboy, the next, siding with those of us who have the feeling that they are doing this to get their paws on people's private repos and some useful code in there.

This argument is not about the public repos, as those are public for a reason, and used by everyone with access to the internet.

I sit on no fence... I will call MS on shyte when they pull it, but I will also call people on retarded opinions that have no basis in any form of current reality.

If I had an OS as crap as Win10 I'd also give it away for free. The Community edition of Visual Studio is completely stripped down of a lot of things you might need to compile others' projects. For the basics its "OK" but for all serious work, its inadequate.

If MS were serious about this, they'd remove the need to activate old/obsolete OS such as Windows XP / Windows 7 that get used in third world countries and in machines, and open-source those things too. You cannot buy a licence for Windows XP, but, if you do have a copy and a license, you still need to activate it if you reinstall.. Why? I've got copies of other applications I paid for, they decided to make them free, and sent me patches to remove the DRM.

Its never cool to launch personal attacks against people because my arsehole is not the same as your arsehole. But regardless, its pretty obvious you have your opinion and will stick to it vehemently even when shown that you are down right incorrect.
