Microsoft Home Server bogs out under heavy load

To each his own - as long as it's stable, fits your pocket and does the job without needing a frequent kick in the nether regions. :D

*thinks fondly of the bygone era of Novell 3.12*

FreeNAS looks impressive with less than 32Mb disk space used... stuff that into your pipe and smoke it, BillyGates! :D

OK, so this FreeNAS or whatever you are using, does it:

1. Can you schedule it to backup your other PCs over the network in a pretty ghostlike manner?
2. Does it put all your harddrives in one big partition and then automatically put the files you mark important on two of those physical drives seperately?
3. Do I really have to try to figure out seperately designed apps (that means they looks and feels different and operate different and have a mariad of weird sounding names) on Linux just to do the same thing as WHS?

Its not as if I can easily get support anyway or is there a website that says, here is everything you need and need to know and do to have your system running like WHS with opensource/free software?

1) No clue, assumed RSYNC did something similar but haven't had time to check it out :)
2) Nope, but you can always run a RAID array ;) But I get your point.
3) You don't have to, this is just a good free alternative that people can consider as well :)
