Microsoft mum on iPod rumours

Microsoft - always the follower and rarely the inventor.
DOS, GUI based OS's, gaming consoles, smart phones, Internet search engines, online mapping, instant messaging and now an iPod "killer".

When are they going to actually invent something cool themselves instead of always copying other people's ideas and trying to snuff out the original inventors with dubious business practices?

What did Apple invent? Just curious.

Wasn't Apple trying to stop other people from making portable players, claiming they invented them?

an ipod with a blue screen crash haha

MS devices like joysticks, mice and keyboards are actually pretty damn good. This might well be an iPod killer. Nothing will stop Apple from beefing the iPod... ;)

yup meant that as a joke. on a more serious note, with the size of MS i'm actualy looking forward to what they produce. I will most likely tie in with wmp, and its media components. I hope they pimp it up with a few extra's :D

A lot of things on the software side but on the hardware side Firewire is probably one of their more well known inventions.
Apple didn't invent the portable music player - they just made one that was easy to use and could actually hold a worthwhile load of tracks while the rest of the manufacturers were still playing with pathetic 64MB ones.

In my experience Microsoft's hardware is almost always extremely good quality and durable. The only company I like better is Logitech.
