Ok, this is a interesting problem and hopefully v3g can try and get back with some help.

I am a M$ .Net developer (Don't spam me because of this) and have been using 3G since Jan. I haven't been able to open or run any ASP.Net sites since, but initially went through the whole wipe/reinstall/reconfigure/research and eventually gave up trying to fix it until a friend phoned me tonight with a similiar problem.

At first I thought it was XP SP2 and re-installed using SP1 only (Losing some functionality but can live without). This didn't help either.

We followed the following steps on two notebooks:

1) Uninstalled Dash and Data Card Drivers
2) Opened and edited ASP.Net website
3) Reinstalled Dash and Data Card Drivers
4) Unable to open and run ASP.Net websites (No Error)

I know it's not much of a troubleshoot and would like to do more specific testing but this is a definite problem. Anyone else there experincing this as we are both stumped as too what too do and don't want to lose the data cards or give up 3G ?

Have you checked whether the .NET service is running (automatic) after the dash install - maybe it disables the service or something...

[Original Response] Been through all of that. Service starts and everything else is fine. Even downloaded patches, followed security tweaks etc. Have been struggling with this for some time now :)

Also normal .Net applications compile and work fine.

My apologies ic. I just checked this on SP1 and the service wasn't started. Starting it fixed the problem on my SP1 installation. I know I tested this on SP2 and it wasn't the case but will do the SP2 installation again and try. It might solve it this time. Will give feedback as soon as I have tested. I guess all the troubleshooting caused me to miss this and I only went back to SP1 on Friday.

Thanks for the help so far.

No problemo, hope you discover the underlying cause of the problem :).

Just one question though, which version of the dashboard are you having problems with?

Latest version but not using the dash. Problem seemed to have been with card drivers. Will keep everyone informed.

Prior to version 4.02.0006 a compression client by Bytemobile was part of the dashboard. It is this installation that caused .aspx pages to fail to open.

Version 4.02.0006 should not cause this problem, as we removed the compression client in this build, however I'm led to believe that uninstalling the previous version will not resolve the issue. Sounds like one of those un-installable M$ issues. :)

If you've managed to get it working by reverting to SP1, it might be an idea to first install 0006 before reinstalling SP2.

Any which way, if you get it working (knowing your way around .NET), won't you please post here what you did as I'm sure more people are affected by this.

I'll also check, with Vodafone, if they have a workaround for this.

Thanks v3g

I will do the testing tomorrow and let you know. I have the latest dashboard loaded and didn't use the CD at all with the reinstall of my notebook. Hopefully this will fix it.

On SP1 so far the after installing the card make sure the ASP .Net state services is running and set to automatic in the services menu.

Will do a detailed post once I have it working and we can make it a sticky maybe.

Ok. Finally got it working on SP1 and SP2 with the latest drivers. Nothing fancy needed to be done. I just installed SP2 and needed to reinstall the Vodafone Dash again since after the SP2 upgrade the card stopped working. However I did not use the version on the CD but the one I downloaded.

Thanks for all the help guys.

MS.NET ASP.NET and 3G not happy together

I cannot get ASP.NET to open websites since installing 3G. I have intsalled .0006 and Firware version REV 3.1.6.
Windows XP SP2 and Norton Antivrus 2005 Firewall enabled. I toggled on/off all options metioned and have been pulling my hair out on this one., but I still have some left.

Oh! and not forgetting the whole @!#$%^&* REINSTALL. Which took most part of a Saturday pumping CD's in and out.

Gents if i cannot write software how must I pay for this darned 3G.

Help!!

Did you have the previous version of the dash installed?

The way I understood it, uninstalling it does not remove the system changes that causes the .NET issues.

That is, until Diago got it working. It might be something with the sequence Diago used to uninstall / install Service Packs and the dashboard.

Did you use the CD to install the card the first time round ? That would probably be the problem. Also did you check the services to see if the relevant ASP.Net service is running automatically or not. I have it working on both SP1 and SP2 but never used the CD to reinstall the card. Feel free to PM me with any specific question or details

Yes I did install using CD and had old version (0001) also installed via CD. So some droppings of the old installation might still be around.
If I dont use the CD to intsall then how should I install the software. Is there a website to download software.
ASP.NET State service was started and set on automatic.

Thanks

The key to getting it to work is to not use the CD for reinstall. There is a link to the new drivers available under the faq that can be found here:

http://www.mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php?t=19530

Unfortunatly you will most probably need to go through the whole reinstall process again as I have not found a way to completely uninstall the drivers

v3g - I will make a new post regarding this for the FAQ or should I PM you ?

So whats the difference between CD and download version. Are they not both Ver 4.02.0006. Or am I missing something here?

IS there a registry hack of some sort to clean up the uninstall. Finally why is Vodafone not dealing with this issue? If I fix this issue will they pay me? Cannot be more difficult than E=mc^2.

The version on CD is older and this version was released shortly afterwards. It's been available for download and on some of the newer CD's. Vodafone did deal with the issue in this version by removing the compression module that was causing the problem which is to my knowledge a third party piece of software that they used.

Not sure about paying you for fixing it but considering that it solves the problem already they may not see it as one. Uninstalling is tricky for any software vendor especially dealing with drivers etc. :)

Would be wonderful if you can make a new post and I'll add the link into the faq.

Tx!

Will get my ducks in a row a bit later and make the new post. :D
