Oh I agree. Desktops are all going to fade as convergence happens more and more and cloud becomes the way of the world. Eventually we will be "wearing" and "living" our desktops or connecting to them through vaious other yet un-identified means.
The desktop is dying. PC, Mac, Linux, it doesn't matter. Linux doesn't need to become a popular desktop os. It already scales in ways Windows cannot: from the smallest embedded devices to the largest of super computers, and it's already at home in the cloud. Windows struggles to compete with that kind of flexibility. EEE Pc anyone?

Oh, I love Linux. I use Ubuntu on many of my computers. I just don't see the point of turning every thread into a linux versus Windows thread when it has been done to death a million times on this board alone. I also use Windows. They both serve a purpose for me. Why can't we just stick to the topic at hand and make a linux versus windows sticky thread somewhere else? This article has nothing to do with Linux... and sitting there tooting your horn about linux in a thread that has nothing to do with it... kinda makes one look like a nerd.

I love both linux and windows. I have been into linux since before most people on this forum would have heard of linux (like a decade now already).
I went through that windows bashing phase. Until I realised its stupid because both products have their merits and serve a purpose. There are too many people who are so into linux just for the sake of it. I know people who want to put linux into every thing they can find. What is the point. Its childish thing. I used to think it was cool now I am embarresed to be like that now.
Exactly! I was using linux when most people were still trying to figure out what the Mweb big black box was. The thing about all this sudden pro linux bull**** is that it has suddenly become fashionable to be an open source expert. It's like that metrosexual phase some soft-skinned excuses for males went through a few years ago. Unfortunately the constant windows bashing inevitably makes those people come across as zealots.
The best tool for the job. For the better part of 2 decades Mac was the defacto standard for graphic design. That was the best tool for the job and no design company worth its salt would even have considered anything different. Just like Silicon Graphics was the standard for doing CG 3d modelling. Obviously things evolve, and eventually a platform emerges that will set the benchmark for many years to come. And that is exactly what all of these systems, interfaces and platforms have been - industry leading benchmarks. So why keep knocking it?
