Microsoft Office 2007

Depends on your use of Office. If you use it quite a lot (features, etc.) then i would say yes. I bought it and that is just so i can do my work on my desktop instead of my underpowered company laptop. ;)

I don't feel the urge to try working with openoffice or the likes. But if money was an issue then i would've probably given it a go.

or get a permanent "demo" model :p hehe

I will use it for school work and other random stuff.

If I can get it for free. Yes I can get it for free (I know people) Office 2007 Professional
According to them it will activate so I don't need to go the legal way.
I mean really that R2000+ i can get a new graphics card.Hmmm

for home use, I'd say the cheaper 2002/XP/2003 versions should be OK, even OpenOffice.
But for work the new Office2007 version is great, once u get used to where everything sits now ...
For my use I find it much better than previous version.
Doing reports I constantly run into the 65000 line limit in Excel when importing data, now u've got 1million lines to work with, also the old excel only gives u 3 steps to sort data, not sure how much now, but way more than 3. The othe apps (Word/PPT) haven't really seen much improvements so can't comment.
Best value if u average user I'd say is probly the Basic version to get new xcel & word. Why pay for stuff u never gonna use...

Its worth paying for if you are going to use most of its functionalities. Like Access 2007 works ALOT better than Access 2003! If you want to buy alot of Office packages, just give Microsoft a call for a volume licensed package, and save alot on licensing costs.

I got pretty annoyed looking for stuff on it when i first used it,but its fine now. Not much difference from 2003 IMO

I still prefer using 2003, 2007 is a bit of a resource whore :)

Wow so many people here feel so good about themselves for not purchasing it. Ironically they're probably the one's who always complain about criminals or MS.

Anyway back on topic, we have it at work and I don't like it. You spend way too much time looking for stuff initially, especially if you're accustomed to the previous incarnations. But I suppose that you'd get used to it after a while, just don't decide to install it and experiment with it when you have deadlines to meet - best to play around with it in your free time to become accustomed to it.

Or if you dont like the new 2007 menu, try and get your hand on the patch that brings back the 2003 Menu's
