Microsoft plans new IE browser, better security

Indeed and if what they have done thusfar is anything to go by, they will keep on doing so!

About time M$, but perhaps too late?

I doubt M$' ability to sufficiently overhaul (not add) security & add features, that would lure me away from Firefox.

Having said that, I would definitely install IE7 for those troublesome sites (like Telkomonopoly's http://www.telkom.co.za/onlinebill & parts of http://www.efiling.co.za/) that I cannot live without & that refuse to support anything other than IE.

Interesting that M$ admits that they are feeling the pressure from FF. Nothing like a bit of competition to increase the stakes and have us as the customer benefit from it. Pity we can't say the same for out telecommunications industry.

Ivy, open your mind and learn a lesson here, please!

Ivy uses Netscape 4

pmsl :D

On the flip side, IE 7 will need to have tabbed browsing if it wants to compete with FF. The average guy on the street is not to interested in security, he just wants "cool" browsing.

Eeish :D

Actually it is true that most Johns & Janes don't want to have to hassle with security problems, however I think they are being drawn into the dark world of patches, hotfixes & service packs. Perhaps not as much in SA, but certainly in the bigger world-wide IE market.

BTW, Poison Ivy uses IE3.

The average joe in the street is clueless as to what a web browser is !

As a web designer, I've given up saying "web browser" and just end up saying, "your internet thingy"

Mention Firefox and they think your talking about a TV program.

Start talking about Netscape and Internet Explorer and they'll be on the blower to the men in white suits before you can say "bobs me auntie"

Just goes to show, how user friendly computers have become. You don't even need a brain to operate one.

Yet, there are some people that still cant find the power button.
