Microsoft plans USD40-billion share buyback

They make it sound like Steve had a choice in buying Nokia.

Nokia was already looking at Android for its Lumia range and the Nokia/Microsoft pact was at a end come 2014. If Nokia decided to start rolling Android phones it would have signaled to general consumers that Windows Phone was a dud, something Microsoft can not afford, not with all they money they pushed into the mobile OS.

It's no secret that the tradional desktop PC is continually fading away, and that it will eventually some more mobile form of PC will take it's place. I think all the people that only know MS windows now, will still prefer MS windows on this device.

As much as MS was forced to buy Nokia I still it was a good decision, if only they could leave Nokia / HW Phone division separate from MS with autonomy
