Microsoft Readies Cloud Version of Windows

Microsoft Corp. unveiled a new way to purchase its flagship Windows operating system, delivering the software via the cloud from the company’s data centers to users’ personal computers or tablets.

The cloud-based product, called Windows 365, frees companies and users from having to install Windows and their various apps, data and settings on every computer.

Reasonable subscription for personal use? Will it be usable from a linux os?

So basically this is the newest version of windows terminal server hosted at redmond, and all the end users are thin clients.

Replacement for the RDP setup we have hopefully. Works great but has its limitations.

Wait a second.... Is this not a rebranded Windows Virtual Desktop?

So is this windows as a VM?

What is the base OS, apple?

And what happens if government is late with their payments because of the lengthy processes, or the budget is short because of forex swings... they now lose access to their desktops too ;-)

DAAS (Desktop as a service), aka Virtual desktops have been around forever, and before that thin clients. The only difference here is Microsoft branding and marketing a customized version directly on their platform. The only question is how competitive the price/performance will be compared to something like Amazon Workspaces.

Users can size up and down without having to buy a new PC, and can also choose between Windows 10 and the next version, Windows 11, when it’s available later this year.
And what does the Windows 11 checkmate tool have to say on a cloudy Azure runabout?

This will go down well anywhere that you don't have signal.
This is like an angry boomers last ditch attempt to stop digital nomads.
