Microsoft shows off redesigned Windows 10 start menu

Microsoft has given users a first look at its upcoming redesign for the Windows 10 Start menu.

During a Windows Insider webcast, the company showed off an early version of the new design concept which was still under development.

This new design reduces the prominence of Live Tiles in favour of standard icons, making the tiles smaller and removing the coloured backgrounds for each tile to better fit the user’s theme.

Someone used a colour-picker in paint and it's now a headline?

MS make me laugh.

Send the Microsoft team an Android tablet with Nova launcher and 100 random themes. They'll cream their trousies!!!

Huh?

So the redesign is allowing user customisation to a larger degree? I don't get it, you can already switch and play with your tiles. You can already disable live tiles, change the colour...

I didn't listen to the podcast, but going by this article it seems more the ability to control how live tiles behave to better suit the user experience.

Everything else can already be done as described in the article.

I quickly scanned through the podcast. Okay, yes, they believe the live tiles are too similar in behaviour and thus users lose track with their app usage hence they want to differentiate the behaviour of the live tiles in order to differentiate the apps for improved identification. Best to listen to the podcast, check them out on Medium,

A lot of which have already been systematically introduced, I just believe Microsoft gave some closure for those realising that changes are happening. Not everyone is Insiders.
