HI All

Ive tried just about everything on the internet i could find. So I'm hoping someone here had the same issue and solved it and can tell me what i can do to solve it as well.

I had windows 10 on my laptop, i wanted to get the Xbox Game pass, so i went to try run the Xbox app (i had previously installed it) and it asked me to update from the store but this fails with the attached error.

I have tried reinstalling the store, checking updates, clearing the update cache, clearing the store, tried updating all apps with winget commands. I then did an in place upgrade to Win11 24h2 ran fine, i then ran all windows updates, had a couple, i then tried the store again and its doing the same thing. I have tried 2 different accounts same issue, i tried it on the local PC admin account, same thing. It does it on every app i try and download through the store no matter what it is, it fails with the error.

Any ideas? (besides what is on the Microsoft site ive tried it all lol)

The only thing i havent done is a completely fresh install of windows because its a pain, i work on this laptop as well so its a massive shlep to redo the entire thing from fresh.

Uninstall the Game Pass app and check on Google for some additional commands to run.
Then redownload it.

It’s a Xbox app that’s the problem; has been for a few years

Thanks but i tried that already, i dont have the app installed, when i try i get the error i attached. This same error is shown on all the apps i try download. I have uninstalled everything Xbox related that i could but its still giving me the same error

I had a similar issue on Windows 11. Finally got it working after using a VPN and trying couple of days later.

How is it possible that one of the richest companies in the world has some of the worst half baked applications.

Try changing your system language/region maybe to something else. UK or US maybe?

Try this :
  • Press the Windows Key
  • Search for "View Network Connections" and open it.
  • Right click on the connection you are using, and press properties.
  • Scroll down to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)" uncheck it, and press ok.
  • Restart the PC / Retry any game install.

Thanks ill try that, its not working now but ill see tomorrow or later in the week if i get lucky.

I tried the regional setting that did nothing too. I installed a new VM and it worked fine there, so im guessing there is a fault in the windows system files somewhere. Even though DISM health scans and SFC scans found no issues.

I have software that refuse to run on my windows account. I have tried 5 or 6 different PC's, all with the option to install from scratch and not to sync any data. But it crashes and refuse to run on the windows that uses my windows account. If I run it on a VM with no account linked to it, it runs fine.

So just an update for anyone having the same issue. After about 4 or 5 hours with 2 different windows techs from microsoft, they couldnt help, they did everything, remoted onto my machine, did mostly the same stuff i had already tried from reinstalling, to new user profiles and nothing worked. They advised me to do a windows reset keeping my data but removing all my apps etc.

When that finished, i started up the store, logged in and BAM same f^&@%ing issue. BUT, i tried the steps in this video and managed to get it working. But not with the app hes talking about that failed still, on his website in the description (Link) where you can read about it. Its titled "Steps to Install the Xbox App Without the Microsoft Store Using an Online Link Generator"

Finally i managed to get it working after manually downloading all the dependancies and then installing those first and then running the install for Xbox App and it updated and opened. Nightmare stuff. Now to test if the games will actually run after all this.

Thanks for all the comments and offers of assistance.

The MS peeps are paid the longer the chat takes and aren’t allowed to use external resources. Glad the links helped

Hope whatever you installed is not malware. That looks super dodgy.

Did a Google and seems legit. Stupid the lengths one has to go to make something work. Microsoft sucks.
Its unbelievable lol. And to see the amount of people and posts online that have the same issue with no real fix from their side.
