Microsoft tests Internet Explorer 8

Microsoft has sent out invitations to its testing community asking them to participate in beta trials ahead of the release of Internet Explorer 8.

According to the announcement, which was sent via email, there will also be a public beta test once the invitation-only test is complete.

Currently few details have emerged about the new version but IE8 is expected to be more compliant with World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards.

W3C is an organisation that promotes interoperability of software programs on the web and other browsers such as Safari, Opera and Firefox already comply with many of its standards.

Although no date has been set for the release of IE8, Microsoft reportedly plans to demo the latest version at the MIX Conference in Las Vegas at the beginning of March.

IE7 was released in October 2006 and is widely regarded as more stable and secure than its predecessor, IE6.

haha... MS took like 8 years to update IE6... and now they are ready with IE8 barely a few years after the disaster that is IE7. That tell you something? :D

Firefox has become the worlds second biggest memory leak ever. Whilst a great browser, the code quality across three releases has suffered greatly.

IE, on the other hand actually seems to have improved. I'm a great FF fan, but lately I've been disappointed.

I agree, I haven't used FF2 in a while and the latest version .12 is really really giving me a headache, if I type a post on this forum my pc freezes for a few seconds and I just leave it, then it awakes again, definitely a memory issue.

I guess it's back to Opera then, IE forgets me everywhere I sign in for some reason, even on other pc's ;)

FF is an awesome browser. I still think Opera is the best browser, but only if you don't need all the FF plugins.

Mozilla has been working hard at making Firefox 3 faster than its predecessor, and it looks like they might be succeeding. They've recently added some significant JavaScript performance improvements that beat out all of the competition, including Opera 9.5 Beta. And it comes out to be about ten times faster than Internet Explorer 7! Things are really starting to fall into place for Firefox 3 Beta 4 which should be available in the next week or two.
