MicroTik RB411U -- Setup ?

The Mikrotik is attached to one of the VLAN's that did not yet have Wireless access.

Was hoping for input from one of the MikroTik gurus -- there are a number here ......
A primary question is whether you WiFi card is initialised. You should see WiFi network with default SSD. If WiFi is not starting then interface can be dead as well. What are your boot log files look like?

Mikrotik gurus may come up when you supply your configuration details. It is easier to find out error in your project than trying to explaining all things from the beginning. :)

As stated earlier everything is working -- Radio is up and running great on 801.11G ( 54 Mb )
Mikrotik is attached to Cisco
Mobile devices are attached and working on their separate VLAN
Mikrotik is accessible on management VLAN

I am now fluent in Winbox and RouterOS ....:)

I can supply my setup
but
How to compare to what the gurus would have done if the cat is out the bag ( so to say ) ...?

THIS is why developers have a thing called a -- "clean-room"

:)

Ok, understand what you are asking, so if you paste your config we can have a look.

But still don't know what you were trying to achieve, but since you say have got it working, so looking at your config we can maybe enhance it or just leave as is.

Fun

Still don't know what you were trying to achieve,
See post #17 above

Now where is the fun in that .......
The point of the exercise

IF you [someone] was approached as a Mikrotik guru and were given this scenario
HOW
Would you go about configuring the solution ?

I am interested in seeing / comparing what a solution configured by a Mikrotik guru would look like to compare to what I have done

I have not been able to find a complete config / solution for the use of an RB411 in this scenario
and
Definitely not with both the WiFi card as well as the 3G card installed and in operation

I appreciate that the RB411 is now yesterdays machine
but
It is still a handy and powerful machine when upgraded to 802.11n ( dual band / radio and LTE ( 4G )

Ok

Top off my head;

create VLAN interfaces in physical interfaces or WDS interfaces.
create a bridge for each VLAN

Nope

Nope
No specific separate VLAN's created
Only ONE bridge
No WDS
I have seen people talk about a "hotspot" config like this one

https://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?t=71101

This looked very promising
but
Not what I have done
You will also notice that the latest RouterOS sets DYNAMIC default routes which cannot be modified.
Well at least I could not find a way -- in any case it appears the dynamic set routes work ?

Like I said -- more tricks , traps , gotchas , and confusion ......

Yes the Dynamic routes are created once the interface is up, but a static rule will still take precedent if you add a default gateway, but in your case the Dynamic will work just fine as it only forwards the traffic.

Anyways the only other probable solution is you add wlan and ether in a bridge.

Still a few more steps ......

I will post the config tomorrow

I just received a WhatsAP on the mobile connected to the Mikrotik VLAN -- so I guess it is working :)

IF I can just get a reply from numerous companies where I have requested the antenna connection I require

I can start getting the 3G card working.

Have you tried Uniterm (dbg.co.za)?

Update ( not a real update )

Have you tried Uniterm (dbg.co.za)?
Thanks
Not yet
Still busy
Had to go back to the drawing board -- non-routable management vlan still giving me headaches
Then
I decided to play 3G cards and antennas.......

The cheapest way to learn networking ( I mean REALLY learn )
Get a "thrown-away" Mikrotik

( You may however need to go for anger and frustration management classes ... )
As well as marriage counseling
