Mid-range ATI Card

Club 3D 5770 for R1680 is a good buy, leaving you change to put towards a new monitor....

I have nothing at the moment.
I'm just in the process of putting together a list of components for the system I wanna buy.

Add about R200 and get a 5850. The price point of the 5830 makes no sense, it's performance is actually closer to the 5770 than the 5850 and it costs about R200 less than the 5850.

Fully agree with you there. At the moment, there's no compelling reason to recommend the HD5830 over the HD5850. The price difference between the two is relatively small, the HD5850 has a lower TDP and also it's superior in terms of a value-for-money perspective. If you're looking in that price-range, consider spending a little extra on the HD5850.

OK seriously you guys WTF is UP?? Last time I recommended a 5850 I was told that it was too expensive and that the person should go for a 5770. Now the question is what is good for UNDER R2500 and everyone says 5850? Could you please make up your collective minds before I report you all as trolls :D

Seriously though - maybe it would be good to sticky a thread with current "sweet spot" hardware - e.g. 1.5 TB disk is currently seriously good value for money??

Well the fact of the matters is, the nooblets who recommended that you sell the HD5770 didn't actually know its performance or what it was capable of when they recommended it to you. The HD5850 IS the better choice, even if you can't afford it :)

A sticky thread with updated "sweet spot" hardware would be really good... But isn't that already covered by the "Hardware Bargains" thread?

Gawd, I didn't think I'd be opening a can of worms xD

Spank you muchly for advice peoples.
