I usually connect to this tower during the day, but for some reason the signal is all over the place and modem is trying to find a multitude of other towers to connect to.

Anyone else experiencing problems as there is no incident report on the iBurst site?

Standard iBurst response even though they are aware of the fact that the drivers have been reinstalled, firmware update has been done and modem is regularly moved.

Thank you for contacting our Iburst helpdesk. My name is ######## and I will be handling your request.

With regards to your request of experiencing bad signal strength, please find the information requested below.

It could be that your drivers for your modem are corrupted.
I suggest that you get an external antennae to boost your speed connection and better reception.
Re-install the drivers for the modem and do a firmware update for your drivers to boost your signal.
Move your device around to a better location for better reception.

Why must we now incur an additional cost for an aerial when it used to work perfectly not two weeks ago without it?

midrand tower has been messed for about a month now The speeds have definately decreased

I have been told that due to the vast number of construction projects in the area that this is the cause of the loss in signal strength. When asked if it could be fixed the answer was not until we put up more base stations. When asked when this would happen, they could not tell me.

So the gist of it is this, if your signal deteriorates for reasons such as new construction projects or more people coming online closer to the towers etc, buy an aerial. If this still does not help, please wait until we build more base stations which could be next week or in two years from now.

Sad, sad, sad. Pity we "cannot survive without it".

I've seen no degradation. Still getting decent speeds (43Kb on single thread), and no signal discos to speak of.

Ignore me though. I'm 2km away (crow's flight), with 3 contruction projects happening between me and the tower.

Which leads me to my next question: Do crows fly straight?

Lucky you. Do you have DLOS to the tower?

Nope. Used to, but someone decided the land across the road would be better utilised as a double storey housing complex. Then two, then three - and they're not done yet.

Bloody eye sore.

That blows their theory out of the water then.

Hate these new developments myself.
