Good morning,

I'm not really a hardcore gamer and mostly play only WoW. Looking to ditch the crappy 9500GT currently in my system and upgrade to something that will allow me to play the odd game at 1600 x 990 on medium - high. Any good recommendations? Would prefer something that's not too harsh on the PSU as well. ;)

Thanks :)

Just get the 6850 regardless of budget :p

/wonders if I should sell my 5850 to get that 6870 while its still on special....

Hahaha true just buy it! They only available from the 24th so you gotto wait a week but who cares :p

I thought the 5850 > 6870 despite the fact 6870 is newer?

No the 6870 is just a bit better than 5850, makes sense to sell and get the 6870 :D.

Although it will be hard now to sell the 5850 for even 1.5k :D. Maybe you get lucky and find a nooblet.

6870 = 10% more fps, check the charts....

I feel bad taking advantage of nooblets though. I think I just have compulsive upgrade disorder and want something new and shiny :D

Yea we need rehab for people who cannot avoid new pc parts or something, it is in way more expensive than being a drug addict at times :D.

yeah 6870 is faster, but 5850 is so under clocked, it should run 900mhz also then it owns it :P

R1500 is damn bargain

If your budget isn't high then Get a GTS 450.
At the cost of that VTX3D HD 6850 (R1,499), the Nvidia GTS 450 is an awful buy to be honest!

Whiptaka:
Could you please post your CPU, motherboard, RAM & PSU models too?

Budget is around R1500. Athlon X2 3800+, 2GB DDR2 and an Asus M2NPV-MX. 450W PSU. I'm planning on upgrading the CPU and motherboard in the near future though.

PS: That 6850 looks VERY cool. :D

Could you please give the model and brand of your PSU?

My guess would be that your current PSU does not have a PCI-e 6-pin power connector, and the HD 6850 requires 2 of those. You usually get 1 molex (those normal 4 pin hard drive/CD ROM power connectors) to 6-pin PCI-e connector with the card

6850 requires one 6 pin connector, 6870 requires two.
