Hi there, we are a small team (10-20) and we currently have our emails hosted on IMAP via Domains.co.za.

We've been wanting to migrate to Microsoft Exchange for some time now, but we do not have anyone with the proper experience to do this for us. We have found some guides on Microsoft's own Documentation site, but this does seem a little daunting for someone with no experience in these things.

So we are coming to MyBroadband in need of some advice on if we can contact someone/a business to help us with our migration.

Firstly we'll only want to migrate our emails, and later on we'll want to assign licenses (Office) to our users.

Any advice would be great.

Thank you in advance.

I don't have specific advice, but have you tried registering as an organisation and then contact Microsoft support to assist you (via the Admin Panel) ? I found they have been very helpful when we set up our business and have questions or help needed.

Exchange as in onsite server or 365?

I've done a few of these migrations for SMEs
Given the size i'd rather go with Office 365 / Exchange-Online unless there's a particular requirement for Exchange/Hosted Exchange?

Hi, currently we are just looking for a replacement to our IMAP, so no real specific requirements I guess. But thank you for your advice, we'll take a look into Office 365 / Exchange-Online.

The ability to switch users between Email-only and office licenses is done in the same admin too

You can also get a Free Trial initially, which i'd use to create mailboxes and migrate mail - which I assume you'd like to do since you're using IMAP

Feel free to PM and we can chat

I would highly recommend BitTitan as a tool to migrate your data. It is cloud based and costs about R200 per user but money well spent as it makes the process of importing historical mail much smoother.

@Kootherpalli just a tip - make sure you activate Multifactor Auth from day one on Microsoft 365. On a small deployment like yours this probably means using the MS Baseline security settings and I expect whoever you get to help with your migration will do this anyway.

Phishing and business email compromise are among the most prevalent cyber threats we face and M365, being one of the largest email platforms is heavily targeted. MFA is an essential security control (in the same sense that backing up your servers is essential!)

If you contact a reseller like Tarsus on Demand or Axiz, they may be able to recommend a Microsoft Partner using their channels that can assist you. Unless they also offer the service directly.

Make sure they explain the new NCE (New Customer Experience) changes and pricing to you, before you decide to sign up for monthly or annual licensing through CSP channel or decide to use your own credit card on the Microsoft tenant.

Make sure they implement email security on your tenant, using something like Defender for Office 365.

Make sure they implement MFA for you.

Consider a backup solution for Office 365.

And decide whether you want to manage your Microsoft tenant, which requires that you learn/study up, or pay them to do so via some type of agreement.

Oh and avoid any MSP that wants to lock you in with proprietary info, password/account withholding etc.

Cannot agree more. It's simple to set up and get going, and the cutover makes life painless.
Well worth the investment in it.

You can explore Microsoft's free migration program for basic assistance or contact Managed Service Providers.

100% recommend the MSP option.

M365 is no joke these days in terms of what you need to know to use it properly. Unless a company has the inhouse skills they'd want to consider partnering with a company who fully understands the hosting, compliance, and security aspects of it.

And I would emphasize security. It seems to have blown up into an entirely new framework (Zero Trust) on its own these days. Gone are the days of Firewall + Antivirus and locking down your network. While that still has to happen, each and every account and endpoint at any location is now also a target.
