Boxing legend Mike Schutte's son shot himself dead with a hunting rifle last week, Beeld reported on Tuesday.

Pieter Schutte, 40, was found in the Seodin Cemetery in Kuruman in the Northern Cape on Thursday afternoon.

He and his wife Carin had reportedly been discussing the family's relocation to Pretoria and he had been emotional.

Carin Schutte said he calmed down and told her he was going to fetch boxes for packing.

A few hours later he called her from the cemetery and told her what he was planning to do, and asked her to come to him.

He had their bakkie so she called their pastor and arranged a lift there for herself.

When she got there the pastor had already arrived and held her back as she tried to run towards her husband lying next to their bakkie.

A memorial service would be held at 6pm on Tuesday night.

He leaves his wife and two children.

His father Mike died in 2008.

Suicide is an extremely selfish act, especially where there no other factors of mental or physical illness.

I refuse to accept that suicide is a way out for any problem. This guy leaves his 2 kids behind, and calls his wife to come and find his dead body. What a douche bag.
And you can't know they'd be better off with him than without.

Yes this story reads incomplete. If he'd killed himself because he was moving to Kuruman it might be a bit more understandable -moving away from Kuruman is cause for celebration and imploring your deity to increase the days of your life.

Yes, suicide is selfish. Yes, suicide is not the right way to handle things.

BUT do you really think that this man was planning this as he did not want to pay e-toll? Do you know what amount of guts it takes to commit suicide?

So she gets a lift with the Pastor but then he arrives before her...

Extremely selfish act!

when i was at school (about 15) a friend in my class committed suicide by jumping from a building.
to this day, over 25 yrs later, every time I am above the 9th floor of a building I look down & wonder how he could have jumped from that height.

I also dont understand why people choose to jump from a building or bridge. If there is one thing that will make me change my mind it is looking down. I am scared of heights. With a gun it is quick and hopefully instant and painless. Jumping from a building the fear that you must have going down must be horrific. I wonder if some people die on their way down from heart failure?
