Mike Schutte's son shoots self before move

I also dont understand why people choose to jump from a building or bridge. If there is one thing that will make me change my mind it is looking down. I am scared of heights. With a gun it is quick and hopefully instant and painless. Jumping from a building the fear that you must have going down must be horrific. I wonder if some people die on their way down from heart failure?

I dunno, i think Bungee jumping wouldnt be alowed if that was the case.

We have no right to say that what he did was cowardly. You do not know if he was suffering from depression and in fact the number of men who even get diagnosed is low.

Until you have sat there and contemplated taking your own life you have no right to judge. Trust me, as a person who has thought about it more than once and had the means to do it stepping back from that edge takes more courage than you will ever understand. In fact what kept me from going as far as he did was the thought of how it would destroy my mother and I didn't want her to go through any more pain.

And PS. This is the first time I have told any one about this.
I suffer from depression and at this point I simply can't afford the meds.

Have you tried herbal remedies?

Thnx for sharing, it takes alot. You are not alone. All the best.

My dad did it when i was about 6.At first i had the same response as most of the people on this thread, but recently i realised that if he hadnt done it then we would prob be worse off...

I haven't tried anything herbal, I am a bit of a science nut so I generally only think that pharmaceuticals work. Suicide does cause a lot of pain to those who are left and you are left with a lot of questions. I think what needs to be said is this:

Just because a person commits suicide doesn't mean they didn't love their family, spouse, children. But rather they believed that a world without themselves in it would be a better world for their loved ones. In my case my depression is driven by my inability to see my daughter and the thought of not knowing her drives me to feel like there is no point to life. It might sound like a cliche but you simply do not know what it is to love until you are a parent.

Apparently the herbal remedies is nothing but rice and weeds? :-(

My dad also did it ... I was 17. I hated him for doing it ... but now I just miss him. I dont blame him, I dont hate him, I dont think he was selfish ... I just miss him and that is all.

That part in bold :
That is exactly what i have realised now, after holding onto alot of anger, I finally saw that he did what he did so we could be better off.Still doesnt makeup for all those years i grew up without a father figure, but what to do... im a father now and i will do a better job than he did, there is no way im allowing my kid to grow up without a father.

Surely he wouldnt have been that bad if he stuck around then?

Life no matter how bad it gets is just not worth throwing away, theres always something good you can do going forward, nobody is beyond the turning point.Suicide is just not an option IMO for anybody.

Not all of the herbal meds are useless - Hypericum does work for some people - I guess that it depends on what the physiological root of the depression is (i.e. the biochemical pathway). Also - it depends on what kind of anxiety levels you suffer from. Something as simple as rescue remedy (which relieves anxiety) or Valerian (which also reduces anxiety) really can help immensely - and are not placebos. I know those feelings... Hang in there!

Hypericum, Valerian and Rescue Remedy are sold by most good pharmacies.

Sad very sad and my heart goes to those left behind.

I cannot imagine what it takes to do that but I am sure he had his reasons and I feel for those left behind to try and consolidate and move forward.
