Johannesburg - Cricket South Africa (CSA) announced on Thursday the addition of 20-year-old Nashua Dolphins batsman David Miller to the Proteas' limited overs squads for the tour of the West Indies.

The limited overs section of the two consists of two Pro20 International matches and five One-Day Internationals. The two Pro20 matches will be played on Wednesday and Thursday of next week and the first two ODIs on the following Saturday and Monday.

All four these matches will be played at the Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua.

"Unfortunately Wayne Parnell has not recovered sufficiently from injury for this segment of the tour and we are now targeting for the three-match Test series next month," commented CSA selection convener Andrew Hudson.

"But it does create an opportunity to try out another youngster at international level," he added. "We have specifically opted for Miller because we are looking to strengthen our power-hitting in the middle order. David has impressed in this role for the Nashua Dolphins in both the MTN40 and the Standard Bank Pro20 competitions.

"He had a strike rate of 125 and 133 respectively in these competitions and has also done well for the South Africa A side on their current tour of Bangladesh."

His performances include the highest score in the domestic Pro20 season (90 not out off 52 balls against the Highveld Lions and 115 not out off only 60 balls (a strike rate of almost 200) for South Africa A against Bangladesh A.

Remarkably he averaged 53 in the Pro20 (a remarkable effort by any standards) and 40 in the MTN40.

He is also an outstanding outfielder and his diving catch after sprinting all of 20 metres to dismiss Albie Morkel at SuperSport Park was a pivotal moment in the MTN40 semi-final. He captured a second big fish when he ran out AB de Villiers earlier in the innings.

The other four original selections for the Proteas ODI squad - Hashim Amla, Alviro Petersen, Ryan McLaren and Lonwabo Tsotsobe - will arrive over the weekend.

Amla comes off an outstanding mini-season for Nottinghamshire in the England county championship in which he has scored four half-centuries and one century in six innings (four matches) for an aggregate of 585 runs at an average of 75.

Tsotsobe and Petersen have both been part of the South African A tour of Bangladesh.

Saw a bit of him during the domestic season, he seems pretty good. Let's hope that he gets a few games before the series is decided.

I'd also like to see Amla given a trial as ODI captain.

He should have been in the world t20 squad to start with. This selection doesn't make sense though, a batsmen replacing parnell. What it really shows is the team management is worried about the current lot in the squad. Reckon miller at least plays the two twenty 20 games.

WTF is McLaren doing there? :(

I would have liked to see some more youngsters in the T20 side ...

McClaren is picked above albie due to being a more consistent bowler.

I think bigger changes will come after wc 2011. Its now too late for big changes.

Really? if we don't find the good players we have zero 0 chance, no point going in with the same old chokers.

Hope he performs, otherwise he will get dropped straight away ;/

Haven't seen him play but still I think the Protea's need some new talent in the squad.

If you throw youngster in at the deep end and they aren't ready you could ruin their careers. You could introduce at most 3 new guys for the squad now to get ready in time for the world cup. But there isn't enough time to get more involved and ready. I don't see winning world cup 2011 as very likely imho.

its strange how the every time the proteas choke its because the top order folded, if we want to be more of a challenge, get in consistent batsmen, i will stand by my statement that our mayor problem is our poor batsmen

I think it's a good opportunity for the kid. let's hope the selectors give him a chance to show his worth and he grabs it. I think we may need to find a replacement for Boucher in the shorter versions of the game as he doesn't seem up for it!

I thought he played really well. Stuck his hand up and deserves to be left in the side i think.

He turned out to be the game saver for the Proteas. Nice. Maybe this will give the selectors a wee bit more confidence to try promising young talent.
