Do any of you use mindfulness techniques to improve your state of mind and behaviour?

What do you think about it?

I have recently begun and so far I find it quite helpful.

a kind of nonelaborative, nonjudgmental, present-centered awareness in which each thought, feeling, or sensation that arises in the attentional field is acknowledged and accepted as it is

The above is not unusual for me personally, though I call it conscious consciousness.
That is when I am in state of relaxation and I allow my mind to become quiet and only focus on the then.
Being in the present and simply experiencing my own existence in my environment (the planet and our solar system).

Being able to really relax and let my mind simply be aware, also allows for my mind to refresh in a way, and this gives me the strength and ability to continue dealing with the chaos of modern dense living and all the people that make up life in my environment.

Being quiet and spending a lot of time alone, contributes to my empathic intelligence which is extremely high, my ability to understand people and their emotions, their choices, their fears and insecurities and I have an enhanced ability to communicate with children and animals.

For all the above, psychiatrists have labelled me quite a bit through the years, from schizoid, bipolar, borderline personality disorder, temporal lobe epilepsy and so..

Yet in the end I rejected all the above, realising that I am simply highly conscious and an empath.

Most of all, becoming quiet and as one with my environment, gives me perspective, and through this perspective I gain extraordinary understanding of the simplicity and complexity of existence.

Nope. My mind is an idiotic shouting maelstrom, and I can't really make it behave or relax.

Drives me nuts actually.

I used to practice zen meditation pretty regularly a few years ago but gave it up for various reasons. For a while I was really sort of a joyful person. I keep meaning to get into reguar practice again but the mind being what it is...

I'm still able to pull myself back into the moment when shyte gets a bit hectic though. It's a useful skill.

I bought a book called Mindfulness and it really makes a difference in your daily life when you practice the examples daily for 10 minutes in the morning and evenings.

I have the same problem, although, it seems to be a lot better now days.
In the past its why i used quite a bit of drugs and alcohol, it seemed to give my head a "reset" which was well needed

Haven't looked at that, but do yourself a favor and go to http://www.learnoutloud.com/ and download the audiobook "Leadership and Self-Deception" (it's free). Very good, and really helps you change the way you behave.

Well, when I bought my copy a couple of months ago it was free.... I guess times change.

I'm working through the following book which I recently bought:

This book includes a CD with guided meditations.

One of the valuable things I have learnt, in such a way that I am actually incorporating it into my life, is that, when faced with a stressful event, I try to respond, rather than react. By responding, I am able to choose my response, something I wouldn't be able to do if reacting to the event.
