MineCraft Survival Online - Vanilla Server

All this vanilla is fine and dandy, but what I need is a modded server... Sadly with the bandwidth and processing required it'll have to be a dedicated server which ain't gonna happen:(

Problems with too many plugins is they impact stability. They also give some players unfair powers and abilities. I like vanilla because everyone is on an equal footing and the stability is awesome. Another major problem with plugin based worlds is they almost all use bukkit. Which means you often have to wait weeks to get to the latest version of minecraft.

The typical vanilla players response... Stability isn't an issue if you use an established modpack like FTB they've sorted it all for you or make your own and sort it like me. Unfair powers and abilities?? Ummm no, I've honestly no idea what you're talking about here as PVP is very rare in modded MC because the ability to annihilate each other is too strong and destroying months of someones work is possible in a few seconds. And these 'powers' you speak of don't just appear magically or are a simple crafting recipe, you have to work for them sometimes for hours and hours to get to the truly epic things.

NO ONE in modded MC gives a toss about vanilla, the 'improvements' in vanilla are so small compared to what mods offer people only really care about a new version once the devs are modding on it to get all the new toys... Besides which almost all additions to vanilla are usually made by modders at least 3 versions back down the line...

Thge only things mods truly affect is they up the processing power and bandwidth required quite high making a home PC unsuitable for a server.

:erm: Dude, Ive run a ton of minecraft servers. Voetsek with your bs. This is the first time in a long time Ive setup a vanilla server. 99.9999999% of the servers I have run or setup or been involved with have been bukkit servers.

Yeah it kinda is :D Especially when you have mods constantly tweaking plugins and restarting the server. Most experienced players have come across this. There are thousands of modded servers out there. The majority of them are unstable. A handful (with exceptional modding) may be stable.

Yeah, does the plugin called "Essentials" not ring a bell? You can give your buds or other mods awesome abilities like the ability to teleport to someone, to go invisible, to fly. Create whatever material they want. Ive seen many a mod on many a server abuse their power one too many times. Perhaps you are the one perfect angel out there running the one perfect server where everything just works and the mods are just perfect.

I was talking about plugin power abuse dude.

NO ONE in modded MC gives a toss about vanilla,
Well thats a lie. I play both modded and vanilla and do give a toss.

God, one cant compare or have an opinion about the difference between vanilla and bukkit without someone going ape****. Some people prefer modded, some people prefer vanilla some people prefer both.

I thought bukkit was a modded server that lets you run bukkit plugins?

A bukkit plugin is not a 'mod', it's server tweaks to a mostly vanilla game... Mods add functionality/blocks/items etc etc etc to the game, the big ones for example are Industrialcraft, Buildcraft, Railcraft, Thermal Expansion, Thaumcraft, Forestry but there's 100's and 100's of them...

My instance for 1.5.2 has 123 seperate mods all adding their own things. This is what I was referring to when I said mods

Bukkit server is a mod that lets you run bukket plugins. But I understand what you are getting at.

Hence my fanboi reply because I'm used to vanilla players hurling abuse at modders because they're "cheating"... When most haven't a clue what a modded instance even is. Personally I've never played Bukkit, the plugins are like the retarded cousin to the mods these days.

If you want to checkout a modded instance go to YouTube and look for Direwolf20, will give you an idea of how awesome mods are compared to vanilla.
