Mini Cooper problem

BMW made, BMW problems. Which is why people quickly trade them in as soon as the “plan” is over. It ain't no Jap.

Yip, learnt this the hard, expensive way. Great cars until something goes wrong and then you're going to pay until your wallet bleeds if it's out of plan.

The R50's are going p-cheap these days.

They're (supposedly) are the higher risk for big bills.

Around R50k side will get you a base Cooper, the S is not that much more. The last of the line later models S R50's look to be around an easy under 100k. This is CT pricing, so Jozi might be a tad more cheaper than that even.

Why would you pay R50,000 or R100,000 for something with a R50 price tag though, I mean the price is even printed on the car itself?

Good luck trying to find an independent mechanic willing to work on a Mini Cooper. My wife had endless problems with her second-hand Mini Cooper and had no choice to use the services of the BMW dealership to sort it out. No independent mechanic wanted to touch it with a ten-foot barge pole.

Actually my brother. But he specializes in Motorbikes (Harley and Buell). He has a Mini and he said the best when BMW stopped servicing it. Their mechanics are not great. He once made them replace an specially ordered chrome bumper because mechanics put tools on it and caused a lot of scratches. BMW unhappily replaced it. But he wont work as a full time mechanic. He said his pet hate is a guy bringing a bike in for a service, he would say we need to fix this, and the client said, just do an oil change, dont worry about it, 200km later the guy blames him because the oil change didnt fix the bike. Yup. So now he just buys, rebuilds and sells.

I also know the best VW gearbox specialist, but he would only touch a VW and an Alfa Romeo. I asked him to service a Honda and he refused flatly.

Generally its like dealing with House MD for both. haha.

replace ,pump and filter ,otherwise you be chasing your tail and will do that really poopy job twice .edit ,i mean the whole module not just the pump in the tank and then nylon strap it into place like ive seen in the old module ,they not expensive unless you got a S .then cry.both mostly under the seat ,one cover is pump one is filter ,do it once and look inside tank when empty for detritus .also do diagnostics first it may be elsewhere .
You seem to know what you are talking about, no wonder you are an Expert member.
Could we talk outside of this forum in an effort to cut the jokers out?

You could send me a whatsapp to 10111 if that's okay
Hide your number Bro. There are some weirdos on the internet - many of them on this Forum.

Rather send him a private message by clicking on his profile, then click on Private Message.

would never buy a BMW no matter how cheap and flashy it looks,
even this that is essentially a BMW with some nostalgia attached it it,

stick with Korean/Japanese or something Asian, even a Chinese copy car is better than a Mini.

A BMW XM would suit you to be honest. I'll get you one once I figure out this lotto thing.

nah .but hide your number .i dont get involved with Mini as a rule .Merc and Fiat products only .i can only maybe give advice but wont tell you what to do .

Assuming it's a Cooper S then it has the N18 engine. Not as problematic as the preceding N14 Prince engine but still takes a bit of money to keep them going.

The fuel pump and filter in the tank is almost never an issue on these cars.

It's direct injection with a high pressure fuel pump driven of one of the cams.

There are companies offering a rebuild service on these fuel pumps for about R3k but in my experience it's a waste of time and money.

Goldwagen sells a quality pump for R16k.

Before swopoing parts get the codes scanned .

I bought a OBD scanner and the BMW software from AliExpress for R800 and it's works perfectly, but it's not that simple to get it going.
Thank you.

It is a mini cooper clubman 2011 model with gen R55/6 engine.

It starts misfiring when doing >120km/h and the engine management light comes on.

If I pull over, stop, switch the engine off and restart it then the misfiring is gone but the engine management light stays on for a little while. After a few minutes that light is off again.

I appreciate all the helpful information I gathered so far and will start by changing the fuel filter.

If the problem is not solved, I will take it for computer diagnosis and fuel pump pressure testing.

I will report back to this forum when the problem is solved and hopefully that information will help other mini owners who may experience similar problems.

Mini did extend the warranty on these i believe but i think youre about 3 years over it .The mechanical high pressure pump is readily available ,but get codes first ,to replace pumps and filter is not an easy job on these cars ,did one years ago out of necessity for a client .contact diesel electric for a mechanic if they know of one ,they usually pretty helpfull .early models didnt have the pump in front ,but you say 2011 so it may have one ,also may be starvation between back pump and filter and front .could be anything really ,so dont buy nought untill obd been done .
