Ok so i have eventually decided to get a mini cooper (not an S model), it's a 2006 model, and yes i know it's a girls/gay car but perfromance wise the mini seems really good (test driving tomorrow), i just wanna know is it expensive when coming to services and maintainance wise?(what cars are'nt these days) Just wanna see what im getting myself into, as i'm most probably gonna end up getting it.

Can you give me an idea? or do you have a link to a site of some sort that can give estimates, as im having trouble location information on it, obviously they wouldn't really display their service costs as this would discourage someone from buying one.

+1, just regular services are expensive and if something like a clutch or gearbox goes you better have a lot of moola in the bank. They also have run-flat tyres which are about R2k per tyre.
A lady at work bought one with over 100k on the clock, it was the only one she could afford and it ended up costing her a fortune every month. If you can't afford a newer one under maintenance plan you probably can't afford it (unless you are mechanic).
I know currently for the Mini you can extend the motorplan for one year at a time at a cost of around R1500 per year, for up to 7 years.
Thereafter you are on your own.
Personally I would not buy this car without a motorplan as you will find you will need to go back to BMW at least every 3 months - something will go wrong with the car.
A new turbo for example in the Cooper S is 15k.
That said they are nice cars.

So not getting the mini cooper, hated the drive and didnt feel that it was value for money, im not saying its a horrible car, its a car you might love but just not for me, so gettin an Opel Astra Gtc 1.9 cdti tomorrow morning, fell in love with it on the test drive, yes its a diesel but wow the power was insane had to buy it.
Got it for 130k, 90k km on the clock with FSH

I am writing this to warn all unsuspecting consumers of the Mini Workshop /Tommy Hankey of High road Kempton Park- to avoid this thief at all costs. He swaps perfectly working parts from your vehicle to sell off as spares and badly damages the areas while doing this. There has been numerous complaints on FB (he just creates new pages to run away from his already damaged reputation) about this fraudulent “mini specialist” who IS NOT a certified mechanic and in addition to this unscrupulous activity he submits fraudulent warranty insurance claims via “a ANOTHER company which is RMI registered” On his fake business website he offers various services which includes in house sale of spares. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR CAR WITH HIM. He openly discusses swapping of parts using OTHER customers (without their knowledge) cars to see if he can check for problems doesn’t even have proper tools but calls himself a specialist. Will also take your car to OTHER mechanics for “evaluation” without your knowledge or permission and by the end of it you will have various broken parts fitted into your car as well as other bad mechanics playing around and probably helping themselves. When confronted this grown man runs and hides away as only a guilty thieving coward would do. He and the workshop are DIRTY as hell the workshop in littered with rotting garbage fruit peels etc. Leaves filthy greasy hand prints and smells all over the car interior which can only be removed by professional valet service most disgusting yet a major RAT INFESTATION at the workshop which are living off the garbage strewn across the inside and outside the workshop and living in the empty shells of old mini’s which he sells off to unsuspecting mini enthusiasts – your car wiring will be eaten by the rats too. Neither he nor his workers are aware of the law and even dumb enough to express their ignorance when confronted! Most mechanic circles are well aware of this fraudster as they have had to fix and report evidence on their client’s behalf’s!

But it's 10 years old. You don't have to take it to the dealership for services and parts anymore.
Don't take it to TOMMY CHESTER HANKEY, apparently, but there must be good mechanics that wont charge dealer prices?

Runs a classic mini workshop in the east rand. Have taken a few of my classic mins to him over the years. Last work he did for me totaled over R30K. Have never had an issue with him ever. Yes he's slow. Yes the workshop isn't spik and span... As for him abusing substances and wada wada wada... Couldnt tell you. Not one part on any of my cars ever lost a nut or bolt. And I know that because they were classic minis. You tighten them often
