Mini launches more affordable One

"In Mini speak, One means bottom of the range and South Africa's line-up now has such a base with the release of the One 3-Door and 5-Door models.
Of course, the pair lower the entry point to Mini ownership, with the One 3-door coming in at R259 800 and the 5-door at R269 800.

That is quite a saving over the Cooper, which starts at R303 500, but what are you missing out on then?


For starters, there is a smaller engine under the stubby bonnet. It's a 1.2-litre version of Mini's new three-cylinder turbopetrol with direct injection, rated at 75kW and 180Nm. The Cooper's 1.5 makes 100kW and 230Nm. Performance is not too bad though, with Mini claiming a 9.9-second 0-100km/h sprint for the One 3-door and 10.1s time for the 5-door, with respective clamed average fuel sipping figures of 4.7 and 4.8 litres per 100km.


The engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and a six-speed autobox is optional. As for standard features you air conditioning, a basic sound system and 15-inch alloy wheels, but there is a huge options list available for those with deeper pockets."

Still way to expensive & looks kinds cheap especially inside compared when compared with normal Cooper models. No touchscreen looks sad...

I think we all agree they are better rivals at this price point.

When the original is overpriced more affordable is meaningless.

A R200 pair of shoes marked up to R800 then given discount to R400 is still overpriced

So your argument is that R400 is not more affordable than R800?

for the person who can't afford the R400 shoes, the R800 pair is also a no go
In both cases he can't afford it

When its still a ridiculous sum of money for a small vehicle, its not more affordable.

Affordable means inexpensive or reasonably priced.... which the Mini One is neither...

I like Mini's, I like the cooper, but I would not in a million years spend R270k on that. For most people on finance that's a 5 grand installment, for what?! A small, under powered and ill equipped fashion statement....

That's a rubbish statement.

I love Apple products but would never in a million yrs spend this on a tiny; stripped out; pap Mini.

They Mini clearly has its segment of buyers; you see them all over the place.

To say that's Apple iCar (which is not even official btw) buyers is nonsense.

TBH ive never owned even one apple product, i think they nice but what do they do better then the competitors?
maybe that sentiment is echoed here, I mean why spend so much on a cr@p mini when there are many many many alternatives that do a LOT more;

so to apple buyers, I mean the iphone is very nice, dont get me wrong,
but what does it do better than the comparable samsung or android phone?

so too I say why spend so much on a iphone when you could get a lot of things for much less; with a android phone;

^ I don't think this s the place for infamous Apple vs Android debate; never understood that actually. You buy a car/phone that's suits your own individual lifestyle. And if a person is willing to pay more for that product; for whatever reason eg. Trendiness; Quality; longevity; it's up to them.

The main issue is you say this Mini would appeal to Apple people. That's one big assumption; that's all I'm saying.

They are many working professionals with no family; guys & girls who would actually dig this "cheaper" Mini. And a fair number of them could be Samsung people even...lol
