Mini launches more affordable One

I am a Mini and BMW fan, and I am a tad tempted.

I don't need much space, my Polo is empty 90% of the time. If I can get a Mini One with Sunroof, auto box, a nice set of 16inch rims and steering controls, I'll be happy.

Indeed! Even the competitors struggle to get that fundamental part right.

Very nice. Enjoying it? I have a Polo Vivo, lol, currently saving up for something special for late next year, what I really want is a 2016 JCW, hoping to get a nicely specced demo, otherwise a brand new One wouldn't be bad.

Handling - aces
Pedal placement for heel and toe - absolutely bang on

Here I hoped that they would had gone back to the old shape, could had called it the Mini Bean.
 
Which brings us to the rands and sense debate. The Mini One 3-door starts at R279 000, and that’s before we factor in the options list from which we doubt any buyers are going to emerge unscathed.

As a premium brand, it’s fair to accept that millennial Minis have always commanded a premium and within the latest line-up, the One is undoubtedly the best value, undercutting the Cooper by a cool R57 000. The cheapest Mini might not be as flashy, but it’s the most Mini of them all. Smart hey Alec?

Yah, as much a I love and adore the Minis, when I began to seriously look into buying a car, the alternatives to the One were much better spec wise. Simply couldn't justify even the cheapest Mini, not with all these less expensive Fiesta EcoBoosts, Renualt Clio 4s, Mazda2s, Peugeot 208s etc... All coming standard with things you'd have to pay extra for in a Mini.

+1 Fully agree, you can get a Renault Clio GT-Line for R224 900 and get way more equipment than what you get in the Mini and basically the same engine, if Mini still uses the engines from the PSA Group. I'd much rather prefer the alternatives like you suggested.
