Im looking for a PC for my father. I gave him my PC last year when I moved abroad and stopped working 2 months ago. He lives couple 100m from the beach so we suspect the salty air may have caused some issues with the components.

I came across the GMKtec NUCBOX at wootware. Link >>> https://www.wootware.co.za/gmktec-n...-ssd-windows-11-pro-ultracompact-mini-pc.html

The linked version is a Intel N97 with 12GB ram and 256GB SSD and there's an i5-12450 with 16GB ram and 512GB SSD for double the price.

At most at any given time, my father will have his emails, chrome with few tabs, and the media player opened all at once. He also uses 2 screens. He is not a heavy user. Onboard storage is not an issue, I gave him my HDD enclosure with a 3TB HDD. All of his media and documents are stored on there already.

Is the N97 one decent for browsing, emails, and streaming with the 2 screen setup? We don't want to get anything too expensive also because of his proximity to the ocean.

What resolution are those screens?

So what would be the best option for the humidity, fan less or with a fan? I see these "industrial" mini pc's are mostly fan less .

You can also get some good deals on secondhand mini pc's on Carbonite. Like i5 10th gen for around 3.5k

Is the N97 in the G5 not better than the N100 in the G3? Wouldnt the extra R300 be worth the extra ram?

I don't think the HDCP thing will affect my father in any way.

True- G5 is better spec, though G3 has some other goodies - extra HDD slot + 2.5GGE for me.

USB-C power for G5 is cool too- can pack it up and take with you to use any screen elsewhere.

Hmm...

Here are 3 Blackview Mini PC options to consider:

this. just pop an SSD in and you're good to go

While that would be an good option. My father won't have the slightest clue how to do that by himself and then to load the OS. That's why I'm looking for something ready to go.

So far I'm leaning towards the GMKtec G5 that I posted in the OP. It has everything, he just needs to plug in the external 3TB and it's 100% for his purpose.

Think you answered your own question bud.
Unless you looking for cheaper options, don't think anyone here has personal experience with it

How does it handle daily use tasks like emails, browsing, word etc? Does it feel slow if using all at the same time?
